It exists at the edge of the fourth dhyana, as it is the supreme easy path. As stated in the Extensive Commentary, "It is contrary to the cause of suffering and is an easy path." The basis is the Arhat, who possesses the quality of immovability; only they can generate it, while others are prone to decline. The two types of learners, if they have not abandoned their own, how can they abandon others'? Moreover, it is generated by people of the three continents because they are intelligent and are together with many companions of afflictions. Although one may slightly focus on oneself and one's place, etc., the object of affliction that is specifically to be dealt with belongs to the desire realm, because the noble ones among humans generate afflictions from sentient beings of the desire realm. Since it cannot be abandoned once it has arisen, one should prevent it from arising. Moreover, the all-pervasive afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, which are without a basis, focus on all of one's own grounds and do not focus on other noble ones. Therefore, one should take the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation, which have a basis, as the object of practice, with the thought of preventing them from arising. Secondly, the nature of the knowledge of aspiration is to know the past and future lives, etc., after having previously made the aspiration or thought, "I should know this." The four aspects, such as the nature, are the same as being without afflictions. Its object is all phenomena, mostly or predominantly with afflictions, although not as unobstructed as supernormal powers. The Vaibhashikas say, "This is not the object of the higher grounds, so in the formless realm, one cannot directly know the past and future lives, but only knows through inference, like knowing the field from the seed." Others believe that the Buddhas know it directly. Thirdly, the individual perfect knowledge is fourfold: the individual perfect knowledge of dharma, meaning, exact words, and eloquence. Like being without afflictions, this is also the same in terms of the individual and the basis, but others are different. The objects of the first three are, in order, "The name of this meaning is the name that was previously known," etc. Dharma is the teaching, i.e., knowing the collection of letters of its name and words without obstruction, and "The meaning of this name is this," etc. The excellence of meaning is the entity or characteristic of liberation, knowing without obstruction, and knowing without obstruction the reasons for the differences in speech sounds. The fourth is reasoning, i.e., being unobstructed because it is related to meaning. Why? Because it is the clear expression of speech related to meaning, or the complete

Having mastery over speech, that is, being able to initiate speech from all mouths without obstruction, the path is to enter as desired through the gate of not forgetting the attainment of samadhi, or to have mastery over knowing that it cannot be obtained by oneself or others, that is, without obstruction, therefore its object is said to be speech and path, which indicates the existence of other realms. The characteristic is the nature of the nine knowledges of the fourth dhyana, that is, abandoning the cessation knowledge. This is all-pervasive, because it focuses on either speech or path. Correctly knowing the meaning individually is ten or six kinds of knowledge. If the meaning is all dharmas, then it is ten, and if it is nirvana, then it is five parts of cessation knowledge and conventional knowledge. It exists in all grounds. The other two are the nature of conventional knowledge, because they focus on names and so on. Dharma knowledge exists in the desire realm and the four dhyanas, because there is no collection of names in the higher realms. Speech, that is, the wisdom of determining words, exists only in the desire realm and the first dhyana, because there is no conceptualization in the higher realms. In the commentary, the other three besides the determination of words are said to arise simultaneously. Some say that Dharma knowledge is post-attainment knowledge, the nature of hearing and thinking. If any one is incomplete, then these four cannot be obtained, because if one exists, then all must exist. The previous preparations for generating them are, in order, to be proficient in calculations such as converting numbers, and the Buddha's teachings, and statements and reasoning. Some think so. However, others say that if the first two are reversed, then the results are consistent. The Vaibhashikas think that all the preparations are only the teachings. Understanding the meaning from the words, and then explaining the sound, translating with certainty and without obstruction, therefore the order is also established. Secondly, the way to obtain them is that these six qualities are obtained through the power of the ultimate meditation, the ultimate is six forms, that is, from the previous six, abandoning the five that determine words and only the ultimate. What is the ultimate? Because it is the most excellent of all meditations, only the fourth dhyana is the ultimate. The fourth dhyana is from the desire realm to the peak of existence, all grounds gradually abide, entering in accordance with and not in accordance with the method, therefore it is consistent, as a cause, growing from small to medium, and from large to larger, reaching the ultimate edge of excellence, therefore it is the edge like a quadrilateral. Six qualities.
