What I want to examine is, what is observed by what dharma, and how much can one consciousness understand. First, what consciousness observes, how many consciousnesses are there? Answer: The object of the Dharma-knowing wisdom is the other nine except for the subsequent wisdom, and the contaminated mind-wisdom is not its object. The object of the Path-wisdom is the other nine except for the conventional wisdom, and the object of the subsequent wisdom is the other nine except for the Dharma-knowing wisdom. The object of the Suffering-wisdom and its cause, the Arising-wisdom, is only the conventional and contaminated mind. The object of the remaining four wisdoms can be all ten, because the conventional wisdom can hold all dharmas, and the first of the contaminated mind-wisdom and the other two of the uncontaminated are part of the Dharma-subsequent wisdom, so it holds all ten. The object of the One-Cessation-wisdom is not consciousness, because it understands cessation. Second, what knowable will become the object of what consciousness? Answer: Divide the dharmas into ten, and then combine them with the ten wisdoms. How to divide them? Conditioned dharmas are divided into three types in the three realms, uncontaminated dharmas are divided into four types, associated and unassociated are divided into two types, and unconditioned dharmas are divided into good and unspecified types, with these differences divided into ten types. Among them, the object of the first type is all; the object of the second type is the desire realm and the two types of Path-wisdom, and the good in unconditioned dharmas, a total of five types; the object of the third type is the above two types and the two types of Path-wisdom, and cessation, a total of seven types; the object of the fourth and fifth types is the two types in the three realms, a total of six types; the object of the sixth type is only cessation; the object of the seventh type is the two types of uncontaminated; the object of the eighth type is the desire realm, form realm, and uncontaminated associated, a total of three types; the object of the ninth and tenth types is the nine types except for the unspecified in unconditioned dharmas. Third, can one consciousness understand all dharmas? Answer: No. Although the object of the conventional wisdom is very broad, one moment of it cannot simultaneously understand its own nature and its own collection, that is, arising simultaneously, because the object and the subject are very close. Apart from that, everything else in the accumulation path will recognize the nature of emptiness or selflessness. Gautama (Sanskrit: Gautama, 喬達摩; Sanskrit Romanization: Gautama, meaning: best cow), can one consciousness understand all dharmas? Answer: No, it takes two moments to understand. Therefore, it is said like this.

Explaining the distinguishing characteristics of that place, there are the possession of wisdom, the common attainment, and the qualities of wisdom. Firstly, how many kinds of wisdom does a person possess? A child with attachment possesses only the first one, while one without attachment possesses defiled mind-consciousness. As for the noble ones, in the first moment of the undefiled, if they are learners with attachment, they possess worldly wisdom and the merit of desire and preparatory stages, being the sole antidote to all three realms. In the second moment, they possess three by adding Dharma-wisdom and suffering-wisdom. Thereafter, in the fourth, sixth, tenth, and fourteenth moments, these four possess each an increase of subsequent wisdom, origin, cessation, and path wisdom, respectively. Those without attachment add defiled mind-consciousness. On the path of meditation, those with attachment possess seven, and those without attachment possess eight. Non-learners possess nine or ten. Secondly, there is attainment during the stage of the path of seeing, attainment during other stages, and the distinctions of attainment. Firstly, on the path of seeing, how the eight tolerances and seven wisdoms arise, each obtaining only its own similar kind in the future. Generally, because the cause of the path of seeing is equally increased, only similar kinds are obtained, but specifically, on the path of seeing itself, a few dissimilar kinds are also obtained, because the cause is not increased, but by other causes. For suffering, the three, such as subsequent wisdom, also obtain worldly wisdom that was not previously present. Dharma-wisdom is not obtained because one has not fully realized one's own truth. When one realizes the exhaustion of truth, one obtains it, therefore that worldly wisdom is called wisdom arising from the limit of manifest realization. Why is it not the time of subsequent wisdom on the path? Because the path has many kinds, one cannot fully meditate on it, because there is no limit to manifest realization. Even at the time of the second subsequent wisdom, there is no limit because the remaining three realms have not been abandoned. That is the limit of abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing in the origin, and the path also has no limit to fully meditating as the antidote to what is to be abandoned by seeing in the path, because it is impossible for one person to meditate on the three vehicles or the small vehicle, etc. This refutation is also said to be similar to cessation. When does that wisdom manifest? Worldly wisdom is merely obtained, it is the nature of arising and not arising, because it is a retinue of the path of seeing.
