If the faculties are sharp, one can transfer feelings, and because one is not very fond of proximity, one is born into the nature of actual concentration. If one is dull, one cannot transfer feelings, so one is born from the nature of proximity as the final liberation path. The proximity and actuality of the four below that are in accordance with feelings, and because of reverence for the land of detachment, the final liberation path is not born from its nature. The noble ones, that is, the remaining eight of the uncontaminated, are victorious from their own ground and the ground above, but not from the ground below. Because one has not been victorious from the ground below, one cannot attain actuality, and when one attains it, because the preceding proximity has already been victorious, it is like not being able to cut off two heads. The fourth question is: What are the aspects of the object of observation of the liberation path and the uninterrupted path of worldly people? The aspects are that the two are in order, the uninterrupted path is aimed at the lower ground and is seen as coarse, etc., and is seen as inferior, evil, and like a thick wall. The liberation path is aimed at the upper ground, and is the opposite of that, such as peacefulness, etc., and is characterized by abundance and renunciation. The object of observation is that the liberation path is the object of the upper ground, and the uninterrupted path is the object of the lower ground. The second question is: What wisdom arises from the knowledge of exhaustion? If it is the knowledge of immovable exhaustion, because it does not decline, the wisdom of non-birth that sees that it is impossible to know suffering, etc., does not arise. If it is not the knowledge of immovable exhaustion, then only a continuum of knowing exhaustion arises and then arises, or the view of the non-learner arises, because it may decline, so the wisdom of knowing non-birth does not arise, and the view of the non-learner sometimes arises in the knowledge of immovable exhaustion, so all arhats arise. The third part, the actual meaning. That is, the wheel of Brahma was taught. In which realm was which fruit obtained? The first part, the essence and the refutation of disputes. The first part is: One who possesses the conduct of a mendicant is a noble one, and his conduct is the immaculate uninterrupted path, because it makes sins completely pacified. As it says in the Middle Length Discourses: This makes sins, non-virtuous dharmas, reborn again, completely pacified from birth to death, so it becomes a mendicant. The fruit of this conduct is the co-emergent liberation path of the equalizing cause and the agent fruit, and the non-co-emergent abandonment of the agent fruit of separation and attainment.

Also. Those two are eighty-nine each, namely, the eighty-one to be abandoned by meditation of the nine grounds, and the liberation path of abandoning the eight to be abandoned by seeing of the upper and lower, that is, eighty-nine, and the eighty-nine of exhaustion abandonment, so together with these, the discipline also becomes eighty-nine. Secondly, there are two divisions: distinction and refutation of disputes regarding the discipline of a śrāmaṇa. The first is: If the Buddha only spoke of the four from stream-enterer to arhat, and here it is necessary to supplement, then is the Buddha not omniscient or is this fabricated here? Answer: Although there are many distinctions, it is summarized into four fruits in the sutras and established, because in whatever stage of the path, the five causes of establishment are said to be one fruit at that time, so there are four. The five causes are: abandoning the path of entering the stream obtained before the fruit, and obtaining the path of abiding other than that, and obtaining by all abandonments abiding on the fruit, thus obtaining one summary, that is, the summary of exhaustion, and obtaining the eightfold aggregates of future dharma and subsequent knowledge from the perspective of the cause of expansion, and fully obtaining the sixteen aspects such as impermanence. Although all four have five causes, liberation from the elements in detail, and saying that it is a summary when the fruit is obtained, is the cause of the summary of complete knowledge, not just abandonment. The second is: If only the uncontaminated path is the discipline of a śrāmaṇa, then the two fruits of detachment from desire obtained by worldly people should not be the fruits of the discipline of a śrāmaṇa, is it? Answer: Those two fruits of the ground obtained by worldly people are mixed with what is obtained by the path of seeing, because all the abandonments of before and after are bound by one attainment summarized by those two fruits, and because of holding the uncontaminated attainment. Some people's addition of "holding" as a supplement to the previous is unreasonable, because the holding of the uncontaminated attainment is established by the mixing itself. Therefore, the latter meaning is that the gradual fruit obtained by worldly people should also not be the fruit of the discipline of a śrāmaṇa, is it? Answer: It is permissible, because it holds the uncontaminated attainment that has become the discipline of a śrāmaṇa. For example, the wealth accumulated by the people around the palace is also said to be the king's wealth because it is stamped with the king's seal.
