It is the cause of birth. First, ignorance of the meaning of truth arises from hearing two viewpoints and generating doubt; then, from evil hearing and thinking, wrong views arise; this Dharma thus slanders the form of suffering, and from this arises the view of the perishable collection; then, clinging to the extreme of permanence; then, clinging to what is clung to, from this arises clinging to the precepts and asceticism that are believed to purify; then, believing in what is believed to purify, thinking that it is supreme, thereby generating the view of clinging to the supreme; then, attachment to pursuing those views of one's own; from this arises the pride of being filled, in terms of the combination of words, pride has been mentioned earlier; clinging to one's own views, and generating hatred towards the views of others who become its enemies. The order of the arising of the ten latent defilements is like that. Second, obtaining latent defilements is not abandoning them by way of cutting them off, and the objects of one's own corresponding or recollection are nearby, and from not properly attending to that object, afflictions arise, because the causes of affliction are complete. Those are, in order, the combination of objects or cause, the object of focus, and the immediately following condition. Third, in the explanation of names and so on, the names are real, those that are similar to what and possess, the five obscurations are shown to be in the desire realm. In the first, it is shown as three such as outflows, it is shown as five such as bonds. In the first, the classification is real, the definition. In the first, outflows, water combination, near clinging. In the first, the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, the outflow of ignorance. First, in the desire realm, the thirty-one afflictions excluding the five kinds of delusion that are practiced, and the ten pervasive entanglements that arise from below, a total of forty-one things, mostly with the qualities of desire as their object, are therefore called the outflow of desire. Second, the fifty-two that practice in the form and formless realms, abandoning the ten latent defilements of ignorance, are solely the outflow of existence, as stated in the "Increase," since those pervasive entanglements are not autonomous, they are not mentioned. Those three reasons for showing as one are that the latent defilements of both of the above are unspecified and proceed by looking inward, and because they are the ground of meditative equipoise, they are made into one outflow, like desire for existence. Third, the ignorance of the three realms.

The five aggregates, the three realms, and the fifteen matters are formed by the outflows of ignorance. The necessity of explaining them separately is because the root of all of them is ignorance, so eliminating it is equivalent to eliminating everything, in order to understand this principle. Therefore, the outflows are pointed out separately. The second part is divided into the main text and the refutation. The first part is: It should be understood in the same way as understanding the combination of rivers or the explanation of outflows. If the sutra says there are four types, then it refers to: after removing various views, the twenty-nine rivers of the desire realm, the twenty-eight rivers of the form realm, and the thirty-six rivers of views, because they clearly show the nature of wisdom, so the Vaibhashika school believes that they should be pointed out separately from the combination of rivers. The teacher believes that it is in accordance with the capacity of the disciples to be tamed. The second part is: When explaining the outflows, why are the views not pointed out separately? Because when explaining the outflows, the views are not separate. Its meaning is, if one abides in samsara, then the solitary views without companions, because they are clear, are not consistent with the subsequent abiding, but are abiding with companions. Therefore, the twenty-nine types are added with "the combination of rivers of the desire realm" and so on. The so-called "reversal" means dissatisfaction, there is no clear sign for the correct meaning, if it is clear for the reversal, then it is consistent with the subsequent abiding again, the teacher said so. The fifteen types of ignorance are the root, so the river of ignorance, that is, the combination, is also added in the same way. The third part is divided into the main text and the refutation. The first part is: The four types of clinging that appear in other sutras are, as mentioned in the combination of rivers, the combination of rivers of the desire realm itself plus the thirty-four types of ignorance is the clinging to desire, the combination of rivers of the form realm plus the thirty-eight types of ignorance is the clinging to existence. Because the views are divided into two types, the thirty types that combine the first two views of the three realms are the clinging to views, the two types of supreme attachment of the three realms are the clinging to morality and asceticism, the last two types of views are separated separately, because taking the non-path as the path, it becomes the enemy of the path, and deceives both sides. For example, taking not eating, etc. as the path, deceives the householders, abandoning the pleasing objects such as hundreds of flavors of delicious food that are not contrary to liberation, clinging to asceticism, deceives the renunciates of the heretics. The second part is: Then, ignorance is mixed with clinging
