Because the results of virtue and non-virtue will not be without, there is the ripening result of future lives, therefore the past exists. Thus, because they say that these three times exist as substances, they are considered to be the school that says all exists. If they say that the present and the past where the fruit has not been produced exist, but the future and the produced do not exist, that is speaking separately. Second, those who say that the three times exist also have four views. The Venerable Dharmatrāta says: When a dharma enters the three times, abandoning the future and obtaining the present, and abandoning that and obtaining the past, the thing changes, but the substance does not change. Just as when milk turns into yogurt and then into ghee, the taste and potency change, but the color does not change. Therefore, he believes that things and substances are not the same. The Venerable Ghoṣaka says: Each time has the characteristics of all three times, but whichever time's characteristic is stronger, that is assigned to that time, so the characteristic changes, but the substance does not change. Just as a person is particularly attached to one woman, but that does not mean that he is not attached to others. He also says that the substance does not change. The Venerable Vasumitra says: Abandoning the state of the future and going to the state of the present, and abandoning that and going to the state of the past, the state changes, but the substance does not change. Just as the same ball is placed in the counting position of one and is called one, similarly, when placed in the counting position of hundreds and thousands, it is called that and that. He believes that the state and the substance possessing the state are different. The Venerable Buddhadeva says: Relative to the present, what is earlier than oneself is the past, what is later than oneself is the future, and what is between the two is the present, so that relative to earlier and later, it becomes different, but the substance does not change. Just as the same woman, relative to different objects, is both a mother and a daughter. The first three views believe that the three times are two substances, while the last view believes that the three times are also three substances. Thus, among the four views, the first view is similar to the view of the Sāṃkhya school that nature is permanent and states are impermanent. The second view will lead to confusion of times, and the fourth view depends on different references.

Therefore, each time has the fault of turning into all three times. However, some say that the difference between these three times is reasonable. The third view is that the Vaibhashikas say: The third view is slightly better, that is, not acting is the future, acting is the present, and stopping after acting is the past. Therefore, the difference between the three times is established by distinguishing the times through actions, because other methods cannot establish it. Second, there are three refutations to these: there are four points in the statement that harms the distinction of time: the existence or non-existence of actions in the three times is the same; actions are occasional; dependent on others; and not dependent on others is unreasonable. The first point is: the present eye does not perform the act of seeing equally, so it should not be the present. If it is said that it has the act of holding and giving fruit. Then, since one is the past, the past also gives fruit, so there is action, or giving has holding, so half will become the present. The second point is: if the entity of dharma exists even in the past and future, then it will be an obstacle to acting, because the two times do not act, and the present acting is occasional, which is unreasonable, because the existence or non-existence of actions in the three times should be the same. Or, the two times will also become acting, because time always exists as an entity, so there is no factor that hinders acting all the time. The third point is: how is the action itself? If the action is different from the one with action, then the action also needs to be accompanied by other actions, so it will become infinite, or if the action has no action, then the action is uncreated, so it will become permanent. The fourth point is: if the action is different from the dharma, then it will become that fault, if it is not different, then the dharma always exists, and the action that is the same as it also always exists, so there is still the fault that the difference between the three times is unreasonable. If, when there is action, it is not different from the dharma, but in the two times, the action has not arisen and perished, if you say so, just as the present entity exists, if you also think that the two times the entity exists, then why do you say that the action has not arisen and perished? Because the entity that is not different from the action exists, so it is like what is done is impermanent. Second, there are three refutations to the proof: First, the meaning of the scripture is: based on what has already happened and will happen in the present, therefore, it is considered that the intention occurred earlier, with habit.
