Madness arises in the mind's consciousness, not through the five senses, but due to incomprehension. Its causes include being born from the maturation of karma from being driven mad by others through substances, frightening sentient beings, harm from non-humans, imbalance of the elements, and unbearable sorrow. Its basis is that it does not exist where there is no unpleasant sound due to the power of virtuous actions, but it exists in all five realms of beings with desire. Even non-Buddha Arya beings can have madness due to imbalance of the elements, what need is there to mention other beings with desire? Thirdly, the meaning of defects and so on is: The Sutra says: The three defects, the three faults, and the three impurities are born of deceit, which is the work of the three doors, which is false and not upright, and the great fault of hatred, and the greed that arises from joy, which is not suitable for the substance of virtue. For example, the impurities of paint are not suitable for wealth. Moreover, it is said in the Earth that attachment is a small fault and easy to separate, hatred can be subdued, and ignorance is a great fault and easy to separate. Secondly, the meaning of the four karmas mentioned in the Sutra is: briefly stated, explained in detail. The first is: Karma is of four kinds, with distinctions such as black and white. In the second, the four karmas are generally stated, the uncontaminated is explained in detail, and other views are refuted. The first is: non-virtue is the only affliction and the result is unpleasant, the virtue of form is that the cause is non-virtuous and the result is not mixed with suffering, and the virtue belonging to desire itself is that the nature and aggregation are not mixed with non-virtue, but in the same continuum, the cause is non-virtuous and the result is mixed with suffering, so in order, both karma and maturation are black, both are white, and the karma of both black and white is the third. The karma that exhausts all three karmas is the uncontaminated karma, which is said to be neither black nor white and without maturation, but the karma that exhausts karma. The term non-white refers to the absence of maturation, and the Sutra says that it is purely white, virtuous, and blameless. The formless does not show white, because the cause, the actions of the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and the result, the four existences, are all complete and white, but they are not complete there, according to the Vaibhashikas. The teacher thinks that in other sutras

Virtuous actions also produce white results. For white results, the karmic maturation is white, such as the five precepts, eight precepts, ten precepts, meditative concentration, immeasurables, and the four formless absorptions. Furthermore, what are those? They are the four formless absorptions. Secondly, do all uncontaminated actions exhaust these three types of karma? No. The four forbearance-knowledges of the path of seeing, and the path of cultivation that eliminates desire for the desire realm, namely the mind of the eight uncontaminated, uninterrupted paths, these twelve types of mind are the actions that exhaust black karma. The mind of the ninth uninterrupted path exhausts white virtuous karma and black non-virtuous karma, and white karma is realized through the path of detachment from desire in the four meditative concentrations, namely the last four minds of the arising of the nine uncontaminated, uninterrupted paths. They also do not abandon the nature of virtue, but abandon the afflictions that are fixated on them. Above, the four forbearance-knowledges exhaust the karma that is the cause of bad migrations, and the abandoning path of the path of cultivation exhausts the karma that is the cause of going to all realms, because the afflictions of karma must also be abandoned. The third view is the view of other schools. Other teachers believe that in the short period of hell, complete virtuous actions are possible, but for both the projection and completion of the great ones, they are non-virtuous, so what is experienced is black. And for the other four types of beings in the desire realm, the karma to be experienced has both projection and completion, both virtuous and non-virtuous, so it is to be known as both black and white. The remaining two views are consistent. Some say that what is abandoned by the seeing path of the desire realm is black, unmixed with virtue, while what is abandoned by other cultivation paths arising from the desire realm generally has both virtuous and non-virtuous types, so it is a mixture of black and white. What is abandoned by the seeing path at the extreme of destruction and what is abandoned by the cultivation path that is unobscured are considered to be abandoned indifferently. Secondly, from the perspective of the basis, there are two divisions: the three types of karma are taught, and from those three types of karma, ten types are divided. The first has three that are able to overcome, three that purify, three that are misdeeds, and three that are good deeds. The first is, what are the "three types of karma that are able to overcome" that appear in the sutras? The body and speech of the non-learner are not able to overcome because they are contaminated, so the seven abandonments are called the body and speech that are able to overcome. And the mind is uncontaminated, so it does not depend on karma, it is able to overcome. In short, the sutras say that the activity of body and speech is very
