Just as an image appears in clear water, it cuts off the view that the senses are faculties, because it is the basis of the lineage. Similarly, it also applies to the ears, etc. Here, it is intended to understand both the characteristics of the faculties and the classification of objects described below. Secondly, the basic classification of form is two types: color and shape. If divided in detail, there are twenty types: blue, yellow, red, white, long, short, square, round, high, low, flat, not flat, clouds, smoke, dust, mist, shadow, sun, light, and darkness. Among them, the first four are the basic colors, the middle eight are the shapes of form, and the last eight are the colors of the limbs. Green, etc., are included in the four basic colors, so they are not mentioned. Although clouds, etc., are also included, the reason for showing them separately is: these appear like walls from a distance, but are not visible when approached, so they are shown to dispel the doubt of whether they are not real, as stated in the टीका. Clouds, smoke, dust, and mist are like that, but for the four, such as the sun, even if there is no such thought, it is explained to dispel the thought that they are not other than the base of walls, etc. If you think that eliminating such thoughts is meaningless, then the Abhidharma is not just showing some dharmas, but in order to obtain the omniscient wisdom, it is to determine all knowable things. This is because it depends on being familiar with the meaning of all dharmas without error, and it cannot be obtained even if one does not understand one. If all sounds are briefly summarized, there are eight types: meaningful and meaningless, each of which is divided into showing sentient beings and not showing sentient beings, and each of which is divided into pleasant and unpleasant, for a total of eight. Because sound disappears and completely disappears, sound is impermanent. There are six types of taste: sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent. Because taste gathers diseases, it is called taste. There are four types of smell: the fragrance that matches the nose faculty, the unpleasant odor that does not match, and the equal with a smaller proportion of the two, and the unequal with a larger proportion. Because smell flows in all directions, it is called smell. There are eleven types of touch: the four elements as the nature of the cause; the seven types of smooth, rough, heavy, light, cold, hunger, and thirst as the nature of the result. Because it can be touched, it is called touch.
