It is unreasonable to become an offense to be restrained and not to become a transgression. Both are accomplished by the end of the action, like the principle of not giving and taking. If one steals as a novice monk and steals for the sake of becoming a fully ordained monk, it becomes a grave offense, as it is said. If it is said that it refers to becoming an offense to be restrained, it is unreasonable. If so, it is irrelevant to cite that scripture here as evidence that the transgression becomes inferior. If it is said that the accomplishment of both the beginning and end of not giving and taking is not established because the ultimate accomplishment of not giving and taking depends on the arising of the thought of obtaining, this is also unreasonable. You have already acknowledged that the thought of obtaining is the intention to steal, and the टीका says that one steals because of this or as a cause of it. However, at the time of becoming a fully ordained monk, there is no act of stealing, so the previous action is inferior. But some people think that the former action is inferior, and in the state of a novice monk, they commit the act of stealing human-used items of complete value. When it is ultimately accomplished in the state of a fully ordained monk, they think that the previous offense has become a grave offense, which is also unreasonable. The transgression here should be superior, not inferior. The inferior here should be that the offense has become a grave offense. The fifth reason is that the scripture says that if one steals as a novice monk and steals for the sake of becoming a fully ordained monk, it becomes a grave offense. The meaning of the second branch is: If it is so in transforming the body, how about the previous and subsequent stages? In the former stage, in the state of a novice monk, if one commits an action that can cause a transgression, even if it is only because of that action, it is ultimately accomplished in the state of a fully ordained monk, it becomes inferior. For example, if one commits an act of killing a person as a novice monk or a female novice monk, and only because of that, that person dies when one is a fully ordained monk, it becomes a grave offense of taking life. If one commits an action in the state of a fully ordained monk and it is ultimately accomplished in the state of a novice monk, what will happen? The subsequent stage of the fully ordained monk is the former stage of the novice monk.

Since it possesses that condition, if an action (such as impure conduct) is performed on the basis of a bhikshu and is ultimately completed during the time of a shramanera, then for that ultimate basis, whatever kind of downfall there is, it will be fully generated. For example, if an act of killing a person is performed on the basis of a bhikshu, and then the precepts are returned, and when one becomes a shramanera, it is ultimately completed, then a transgression similar to a parajika will be generated. Incidentally, those that were previously stated in the section on distinctions as branches of the basis for generating downfalls, or using something similar to those will lead to a downfall, wouldn't it change because of something better than that? If a cushion is made of silk, it will become an expiable offense. Because the previously prohibited item is better than that, if a cushion is made of Monda (translator's note: a type of silk), it is also prohibited, because it also possesses the same condition, it will become an expiable offense. If a cushion is made of Dugula cotton, which has the same value as silk, it is also the same, it will become an expiable offense. Regarding these two points of "prohibited items", some people think that "only two parts of silk, cotton, hair, minerals, and contact with gold and silver, openly marked buying and selling, begging for favors, and coverings made of swords" only applies to eleven downfalls is unreasonable. Because it says in the Fivefold Vinaya: "Therefore, for the sake of downfall, good things are also like bad ones, so engaging in non-brahmacharya with good ones is like engaging with bad ones, stealing good ones is like stealing bad ones, telling good lies is like telling bad ones, it will become a downfall, etc., it should be understood in this way." And in the case of "similar is also the same", also from there: "Therefore, for the sake of downfall, if one similar item is prohibited, then it is for the sake of prohibiting other similar items. For all the bases of learning, such as the five downfalls, if one similar is prohibited, then other similar ones will be prohibited. Just as exceeding one similar item will lead to a downfall, exceeding other similar items will also be considered the same downfall." Therefore, one's own view is, if it is said that because a special place is difficult to find and the time of occurrence is long, will the downfall not be completely generated? The two points of "items" apply to all five categories, even engaging in non-brahmacharya with the king's precious consort will become a parajika, similarly, stealing the wish-fulfilling jewel will also become a parajika, killing a person adorned with marks and signs will also become a parajika, if one says "I am a Buddha", etc.
