Stealing is like the agreement between taking what is not given and what should be prohibited. A monk eating garlic in the morning is like the agreement between eating food at the wrong time and the subsequent accomplishment of combination. Sleeping with one's head covered during the day is like the agreement between non-celibacy and the cause of lineage. Fourth, among the two categories of transgression and conformity arising from the basis of signs, holding the signs of clothing and utensils of non-Buddhists and householders is a transgression of that, as the commentary says, holding the signs of non-Buddhists is likewise a transgression of having properly taken the signs of ordination, therefore, it becomes an act of wrongdoing that should be confessed. Carrying an unsuitable alms bowl and wandering for alms is like resembling the signs of other ordained people, and carrying a householder's alms bowl is a transgression of having properly taken the signs, therefore, it becomes an act of wrongdoing that should be confessed. Its conformity is holding a Dharma robe made of goat wool, holding a Dharma robe that exceeds the size, causing others to make it, and cutting hair with scissors, etc. Taking precious jewels and claiming them as one's own is a transgression arising from the basis of begging. Unnecessarily begging for clothes and begging for leather, etc., are conformity arising from the basis of begging. Having a needle case made of precious jewels and claiming it as one's own is a transgression arising from the basis of vessels. Having a needle case made of cow horn and animal horn, etc., and holding it is conformity arising from the basis of vessels. Eating food at the wrong time and drinking intoxicating beverages, etc., are transgressions arising from the basis of enjoyment. Eating garlic in the morning, etc., is its conformity. Singing, dancing, and playing music are transgressions arising from the basis of frivolity. Running, jumping, and playing everywhere, etc., are its conformity. Practicing non-celibacy is a transgression arising from the basis of desire. Giving, touching, teasing words, serving, praising, etc., are its conformity. Killing and taking what is not given are transgressions arising from the basis of harm. Beating, intending to beat, and causing others to cut food, etc., are its conformity.

It is compliant. Sleeping with a woman who wants to engage in impure conduct is a transgression arising from the basis of abiding, and sleeping with a woman who does not want to engage in impure conduct, as well as sleeping with an expelled monk, is compliant with it. Disrespecting the Khenpo and Acharya is a compliant arising from the basis of disrespect, and not performing the Posadha and Pravāraṇā is a compliant arising from the basis of not practicing. These two are compliant with the aspect of destroying all vows. So, is it certain that one who has fallen due to defeat, when combined with the basis of the five defeats, will not generate more than the sin of wrongdoing? Giving the precepts is the same, that is, taking the same as the basis. How is it the same? The monk who is practicing the precepts to be given is the same. Who is he the same as? He is the same as a pure monk. Where is he the same? He is the same in the basis for generating the five defeats. How is he the same? Just as that pure monk, by combining the basis of the five defeats, generates the defeat of combination, as well as the actual and ultimate defeats, the monk who has been given the precepts also combines the basis of the five defeats, thereby generating those three defeats. The exception to this is that he does not generate the defeat of schism and following it, because being given the precepts cannot serve as a supplement to the karma. Some say that there is also no defeat of leaving the Sangha without speaking. So, what is the meaning of being given the precepts? The earlier ones believe that by abandoning the vows due to undisguised defeat, and then taking the vows again, in order to purify the defeat that caused the abandonment of the previous vows, one must accept and practice the precepts for as long as one lives. The Sutra School believes that in order to purify the gross and heavy sins belonging to the defeat generated by all the other limbs except for the mind of concealment, one should accept the precepts for as long as one lives. Here, the Kashmir Vaibhāṣikas believe that no matter whether the defeat is concealed or unconcealed, one will not abandon the vows, and for those who do not conceal, because it can be remedied, in order to purify the defeat, one should accept inferior conduct for as long as one lives, and accept and practice the precepts of abandoning special behaviors. The so-called monk who has been given the precepts is just an example, there are also Śrāmaṇeras and Śrāmaṇerikās who have been given the precepts. From the *Light Sutra*.
