With a mind of desire, when one begs with a verbal act possessing six characteristics, and ultimately obtains it, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. The meaning is that if one begs for what one lacks for livelihood, exceeding the limit, it becomes a downfall. Here, some say that to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for meat, one must have all the clothes. To generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds, one must lack three or more clothes, which is unreasonable. If a monk lacking one piece of clothing begs for two pieces of clothing, will a Nissaggiya Pacittiya arise or not? If it does not arise, then begging beyond the limit is a Dukkhata. If it is obtained, it contradicts what is said in the main text. If it arises, does the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging arise, or does the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds arise? If it is the former, it contradicts the requirement of having all clothes to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging. If it is the latter, it contradicts the requirement of lacking three or more clothes to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds. Similarly, if a monk lacking two pieces of clothing begs for three pieces of clothing, what will happen? It should be examined and prevented. Some establish their own system, saying that to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging, one must have two or more clothes complete. Others say that to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds, one must have four clothes complete, to which this refutation can be stated: If a monk lacking three pieces of clothing begs for three pieces of clothing from one donor, will the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging arise, or will the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds arise? If it is the latter, then it is reasonable for him to beg for three pieces of clothing. They say, "Because of that." This is the same for you, if a monk lacking three pieces of clothing begs for three pieces of clothing from one donor with one act, then it is reasonable for him to beg for three pieces of clothing, because begging in this way generates the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds. Therefore, both systems are unreasonable. If a monk lacking a Sanghati begs for a Sanghati from a non-relative householder and obtains more than needed, it will generate a Nissaggiya Pacittiya, because it is said in the fifth volume, "Obtaining one robe is not blameworthy, obtaining more than one robe is also not blameworthy." Therefore, to generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging, one must have all the clothes. To generate the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds, one must lack clothes, because a monk lacking one piece of clothing is also the agent of generating the Nissaggiya Pacittiya of begging for kinds, because it is reasonable for him to beg for one piece of clothing.

Regarding the abandonment of begging for food: The basis is a Bhikshu who has not laid out a firm seat, the place is a layperson who is not a relative, clothes donated for oneself. The cognition is not confused, and one knows that the motivation is to donate for oneself. In reality, there is no opportunity to offer, because one wants to beg in advance, so one begs through the six-worded (method), and ultimately obtains it because of that reason, which is abandonment. The ninth, the abandonment of begging for food separately, is the same as the previous one, except that it adds "clothes donated separately by the layman couple for oneself." The tenth, the abandonment of entrusting: The basis is a Bhikshu at a local benefactor's place, the item is the value of clothes entrusted by a layperson who is not a relative. The cognition is not confused, and the motivation is the thought of wanting to beg. One begs through more than the six (methods) of urging to stay, and ultimately obtaining it is abandonment. The summary of the second set of ten is: Silk wool pure one and two parts, six and one cubit road and, one span and taking gold and silver, the one with obvious signs and doing business also. Thus it is said, the abandonment of the silk wool cushion and, pure black wool, and the abandonment of the cushion mixed with two parts, the three are in order: The basis is a Bhikshu. The items are silk wool rare in that place and time, and wool whose nature is black, and mixed with two parts, the cognition is not confused and the motivation is wanting to make a cushion. The action is starting to make a cushion by oneself or another being assigned, and ultimately when those silk wool etc. are spread out, it is abandonment. The fourth, the abandonment of making a cushion within six years is: The basis is a Bhikshu, the item is the second cushion within six years. The cognition is not confused and the motivation is wanting to make a new cushion. The action is starting to make the second cushion within six years, and ultimately completing it is abandonment. The fifth, the abandonment of one cubit is: The basis is a Bhikshu, for a new cushion that is autonomous, even though there are (materials) that can even repair the old cushion, but without patching it with the Tathagata's one cubit. The cognition is not confused and the motivation is wanting to use it freely. The action is starting to enjoy it, and ultimately enjoying it is abandonment. Some (say), if one repairs a new cushion that has not been patched with the Tathagata's one cubit from the old cushion, it will become such abandonment, that refutation is for the new cushion.
