It is unreasonable to say that value should be calculated, because if the king's law is in accordance with the Dharma, the death penalty should not be imposed. If it is not in accordance with the Dharma, then it is unreasonable to calculate the value at the time of taking vows. Because (the scriptures) say that value is the boundary of the place and time of theft. Some people think it is about four khals, because it is taken as an example when 'Od-ldan prevents water diversion. Some people think it is about half a gold gur sho (gser-mgur-zho), because the self-commentary says that the maximum is eight sevas. These statements are also unreasonable, because (the scriptures) say that offering umbrellas to the Buddha and his retinue requires five hundred karshapanas. If according to you, it would become two thousand gold gur mo shos (gser-mgur-mo-zho), which is unreasonable. Moreover, (the scriptures) say that giving a prostitute five hundred karshapanas a night, which is inconsistent with your statement. Others say that the sign of being consistent with the death penalty alone is not established, because it is only consistent with sentencing. Because (the scriptures) say, if someone takes something without giving it, the king or minister will seize it and say, 'Hey, you are a thief! You are a child!' and so on. Therefore, the secular term of thief and punishment by penalty, until it is only considered reasonable, are acceptable. Therefore, about three sevas have complete items. In the 'Eight Meanings' (don brgyad ma), it is said that if compared with the value of India, stealing about one silver sho (dngul-zho) is considered a defeat. This is what Marton (dmar ston) said. Some people think it is about two bre. Because (the scriptures) say that stealing one-eighth of a silver sho (dngul-zho) is a defeat. For this statement, the statement of Dharma Lord Gnas brtan pa is unreasonable, because (the Vinaya) says: 'Is stealing a gold necklace not a defeat?' 'Yes, because the value is insufficient, or it is possessed by a non-human.' If so, one karshapana would become eight bre, and if approved, it would be inconsistent with the story of the Brahmin's cloth, etc. One's own view is that about one-eighth of a gold sho (gser-zho) can be used as the standard of value. In the 'Eight Meanings' (don brgyad ma), it is said that stealing one silver sho (dngul-zho) is a defeat. In 'Wisdom Practice' (shes rab byed pa), it is said that if compared with the present era, if the masha of India is calculated according to the silver tang of Tibet, then there is one-eighth of a silver gold sho (dngul gser zho), there is one-eighth.

Because it is said, "If one steals, one commits a defeat." In the Erroneous Elimination, it is said that it is like a person taking only a little food. This seems to be consistent with the previous meaning, because it also requires half a khal. Fourth, cutting off doubts about the ultimate, is the ultimate of not giving and taking established on the transfer of location, or is it established on the intention of accomplishment? Some say that it must be established on the intention of accomplishment. If it is considered to be established on the transfer of location, then stealing fields and houses, etc., should not be established as a defeat. This is unreasonable. Because the meaning of the transfer of location does not refer to moving and placing objects, but refers to exceeding the limit of what is said, "When it exceeds this location and becomes this location, it becomes a defeat." Therefore, stealing fields and houses, etc., possesses the meaning of transferring location, that is, when stealing by enclosing with fences, etc., it is transferring from the unenclosed location to the enclosed location; when stealing by inserting stakes, it is transferring from the unstaked location to the staked location. Therefore, it is reasonable to establish the ultimate on the transfer of location, because in the five matters, when transferring from one location to another, the stealing is specifically pointed out. Moreover, the Three Hundred Verses says, "Thus, by classifying the stolen objects, stealing is also classified. This is based on the ocean of hundreds of Vinaya." Therefore, if the ultimate of not giving and taking is established on the transfer of location, then how is the transfer of location complete when stealing by preventing watering of the fields? The answer is that for the completion of all the activities of others, watering or preventing watering, if one desires it for the completion of one's own activities, it will become other. The meaning of this is that if it succeeds, it is stealing. Where does it succeed? That is, the completion of the activities of the monk's own field, the increase of crops. When is it? That is, watering when there is water, or preventing watering when there is a lack of water, stealing is at that time. Where is it? That is, on the completion of the activities of others. For what? That is, for the completion of one's own activities. What is the difference in success? That is, apart from the increase in the original qualities of the field, those are not counted, but the new ones arising from watering or preventing watering are counted. Even if the completion of the activities of others is also successful, is it the same? The answer is, apart from success, that is, it becomes desolate.
