It transforms. What is the motivation? Stealing with a stealing mind will transform it. As for the definition of a stealing mind, some say that it is something that belongs to another, not given, but wanting to permanently take it away for the sake of one's own survival, which is not reasonable. The motivation of taking another's property with a covetous mind, has the property of being a stealing mind. Because of that definition. Furthermore, the stealing mind of stealing property for the sake of others, has the property of that definition. Because it is a stealing mind. The reason is established, because stealing valuable property for the sake of others creates a gross offense belonging to taking what is not given. The self-view is: taking what is possessed by others through unreasonable actions, or considering it as theirs, and wanting to take it away, is corresponding to that. Whose possession, when stolen, will transform it? Stealing property possessed by humans will transform it. Does it transform just by that? Stealing what is possessed by humans, considering it as theirs, will transform it. Third, there are four ways to dispel doubts: dispelling doubts about the owner, the object, the value, and the ultimate goal. The first is: if the owners of property taken without permission are classified, there are four types: such as summer gains belonging to the Sangha, becoming the owner through decree; such as the land belonging to the king, through state law; such as the father's property belonging to the son, through lineage; such as the game hunted by the hunter belonging to the hunter, becoming the owner through intention and action. These four may be concentrated in one person, such as a Kadampa Geshe, so which is more important? The earlier one is more important, it is said. The second is: some think that in the "Three Hundred Verses", "Similarly, the king receiving alms", etc., and thinking of rice and porridge, etc., thereby creating the offense of taking what is not given, thinking that the stolen object must not be inferior things such as things in the cemetery, nor cooked food, which is not reasonable. Because stealing livestock food, which is valuable, creates a gross offense, it must be uncooked, which is unreasonable. Because of that commitment. It cannot be accepted, because it is said that the value must be calculated. Furthermore, in the Karika, "trunk, fruit, bark, water", in the "Eightfold Meaning Commentary", stealing water to drink in the desolate wilderness is said to be an offense. The third is: ཞ

At the time of the precepts. Four Kakani are one Masha. Five are a quarter of a Karshapana. Because its value is twenty, it depends on that. The meaning of what was said should be explained: Karshapana is the minimum value of what is not given, so what is its value? Kakani is called Bunkrika, which is the name for the value of twenty guests. It is a kind of goods. In the Tika, it is said that goods are Kakani and Varasa Kala, etc. Four of them are one Masha, which is also the name for the value of eighty guests. If one steals five Mashas, is it certain to be defeated? In the Differentiation, it is said that the Masha itself is a quarter of a Karshapana, so stealing a quarter of it will lead to defeat, but it is not certain for five Mashas. Karshapana is a commodity made of gold or silver. In the commentary, it is said that Karshapana is a kind of commodity made of silver, which is tangible and can be cut off. If so, what is the reason why five Mashas are a quarter of a Karshapana? In the country and time of taking precepts, wherever the value or measure of a Karshapana is twenty Mashas, it is established based on that. At the time of writing the extensive commentary, one Karshapana was sixteen Mashas, so stealing four Mashas would lead to defeat, etc., and it should be understood by applying it to others as well. As it is said in the basis of speech, is it possible for a monk to be defeated by stealing three Mashas? There is an instruction, where twelve Mashas become one Karshapana. Is it possible not to be defeated by stealing more than five Mashas? There is an instruction, where forty Mashas become one Karshapana. So it is said. In Tibet, there is no establishment of Karshapana, etc., so what is the value of what is not given? In China, it is about the amount of a bad horse, because it is in line with the death penalty and the door, and it is also because this amount makes the object to be rejected complete. Shaminara, if there is a royal law that is in accordance with the Dharma, then the minimum amount of substance for which one is sentenced to death for stealing is the measure of value, and if there is no one in accordance with the Dharma, then it is the value at the time of taking precepts.
