There are two aspects in terms of action: actions that one must accomplish oneself and actions that are completed through delegation. In terms of arising, there are two: actions arising from body and speech. In terms of function, there are two: non-action of not doing what should be done, and action of doing what should not be done. To summarize: "Not doing what should be done, and doing what should not be done, from non-action and action, the fault of falling will arise." This is what is said. In terms of essence, there are two types of transgressions: unwholesome transgressions and unspecified transgressions, or they can be summarized into two types: transgressions by nature and transgressions with precepts. The first is like the defeat of killing. The second is like the downfall of digging the ground and touching fire. The second has three aspects: examining the scope of precepts and natural transgressions, examining the differences between the two, and incidentally examining whether the nature of sin and transgression are the same or different. First: Some say that relative to the general basis, natural faults are more pervasive, because they occur in the continuum of both those bound by precepts and those not bound. Preceptual transgressions only occur in the continuum of those who are bound. Relative to the basis of the ordained, preceptual faults are more pervasive, because the existence of the former does not necessarily imply the existence of natural faults, while the existence of natural faults necessarily implies the existence of preceptual transgressions. This is unreasonable, because consciousness does not inherently exist, and for beginners, even if natural faults arise, preceptual transgressions do not arise. Furthermore, when a prithagjana monk develops wrong views, it is not certain that preceptual transgressions will arise. Second: Some say that relative to the cause of that basis, the faults that are allowed to arise are preceptual faults, and the opposite is natural faults. This is unreasonable, otherwise, drinking alcohol is allowed relative to the cause, so it should be a preceptual fault. The reason is established, because the Abhidharmakosha says: "Preceptual faults are for protecting other than what causes intoxication." This is what is said. It cannot be accepted, because the टीका says that prohibition means that even if life is at stake, this action cannot be done in any way. For example, those who claim to be my (Buddha's) teachers say that even with the best roots, they cannot atone and do not drink alcohol. If body anointing and cheek smearing are allowed, then the basis of alcohol is not

If so, then it should be admitted that there is a basis for allowing killing, because there is allowance for cutting the body and burning. Acknowledge this pervasiveness. If you admit it, then the fault of killing should be a fault prescribed by the precepts. For this definition, some people think: With a virtuous mind as the motivation, there is a basis for allowing killing, then it should be a fault prescribed by the precepts, because the self-nature fault motivated by a virtuous mind is unavoidable. This statement is unreasonable, because the uninterrupted crime of non-killing motivated by a virtuous mind should be a fault prescribed by the precepts, because it is not a self-nature fault. Acknowledge this reason. It cannot be admitted, because that is the industry of killing, which occurs to lay people who have not entered Buddhism. Some people think that the order of these two definitions is: the fault caused by afflictions, and the fault caused by either virtue or neutral. For this, some people think that if it is a downfall, then it must be a self-nature fault, because if so, then it must be caused by afflictions, because if so, then it must be caused by the afflicted self-grasping of "this and this must be done." This statement is unreasonable, because downfalls occur in the continuum of Hearer Arhats, but there are no afflictions. This definition is also unreasonable, because the act of killing motivated by a virtuous mind should be a fault prescribed by the precepts, because it is that definition. The root downfall of killing should be a self-nature fault, because it is that definition, because it is a fault caused by hatred. The reason is established, because it is said in the scriptures: "Killing and harming, and harsh words, are all accomplished by hatred." If you admit it, then it will be refuted later. Some people think that what is caused by an unwholesome cause and whose essence is unwholesome is a fault that can produce a Vipāka fruit; what is caused by a wholesome or neutral cause and whose essence is neutral is a fault that cannot produce a Vipāka fruit. This statement is unreasonable, because if it is a fault of the upper realms, then it must be a fault prescribed by the precepts. If so, then it must be self-natured.
