is the main summer. It is said. The harvest month (གྲོ་བཞིན་ཟླ་བ།) is, from the 16th of the sixth month to the 15th of the seventh month of the Hor calendar, it must be done, because in the Sutra Essence of the Sun, it is said that from the 16th of the ninth month to the 15th of the tenth month of the Hor calendar, the Pleiades month is the last month of autumn. In the Year Question, it is mentioned that the beginning of the fourteenth Uposatha is the fourteenth day of the King's month. If the beginning of the year is determined in this way, then someone may ask, does this contradict what is said in the Commentary that the medium length of summer and winter can be tolerated, but the medium length of autumn and spring cannot be tolerated? Answer: There is no contradiction. Because here, the waxing moon is taken as the precedent. Generally speaking, the rule of scriptures is to take the dark moon as the first, as the Prince Sutra says: All months begin with the dark moon. In some cases, saying that the waxing moon is the first, know that this is to conform to the king or worldly people. Second, what is said? That is, the amount of shadow, the division of day and night, the number of days, the waxing and waning of the moon, and the time, these five should be said. Some people say that it is necessary to say the difference between upper, middle, and lower, this is not reasonable, because it is not mentioned in the valid scriptures, and if the other five are said as they are, there is nothing that cannot be understood. Some people say that in the novice's year question, it is also said that it is necessary to say the year, this is also not reasonable, because it is not said that it is necessary to say the time. The way to say it is: immediately after receiving the Bhikshu vows, the time should be explained by a Bhikshu who is not performing the action, first of all, the amount of shadow should be understood, it is best to measure it with a wooden stick or other four-finger measure, because it is easy to understand, so the four-finger measure is called "person", and one finger of the shadow falling on the ground is called "foot". The twenty-two divisions of day and night are: morning, noon, before noon, afternoon, the sun is one-quarter remaining, the sun is one-eighth remaining, the sun has not set, the sun sets, the stars have not appeared, the stars have appeared, the first watch, half of the first watch, the middle watch, half of the middle watch, the last watch, half of the last watch, dawn has not appeared, dawn has appeared, the sun has not risen, the sun has risen, the sun's

Now begins the explanation. It is when a quarter of the sun has risen. There are five times: cold is winter, heat is spring, rainfall is summer, short duration is short summer, and both summer and long is long summer. The first two each have four months: from the first day of the waning moon of the first month of the year, the first month of winter, the second month, the third month, and the first month of spring, these four months are winter. From the new moon of that, the second month of spring, the third month, and the first month of summer, the second month, these four months are spring. Summer is one month, which is the third month of summer. Short summer is one day, if calculated according to the advance of the waxing moon, it is the sixteenth day of the third month of summer; if calculated according to the advance of the waning moon, it is the first day of the Virgo month. Long summer is three months, not just one day, starting from the second day of the waning moon of the first month of autumn, including the twenty-ninth day of the first month of autumn, the second month, and the third month. Third is how to explain: although some scholars explain from small to large, it should be explained from large to small, because both the 'Question of the Year' and the 'Root Commentary' state that it should be explained from large to small. Explaining from large to small is because it is easier for the explainer to explain and easier for the listener to understand, so it should not be said that way. The 'Question of the Year' does not explain the order of time, and the 'Root Commentary' only summarizes the meaning of explaining from small to large in the scriptures, and does not explain the way of explaining by changing the order. Otherwise, there would be faults in the way Shakyamuni Buddha and the scholar Yontan Od explained time. It is acceptable to explain from large to small or from small to large, but it is more necessary to explain from large to small, and it is easier to refute explaining from small to large, because both of them explained from small to large. However, if the year is not mentioned, there will be concern that the time of "receiving the monastic vows this year" will not be known. Searching from small to large and then explaining from large to small is easy to understand, which seems to be confirmed by experience. The detailed classification of seasons will be explained later. Second, explaining the instructions, including the necessity and the summary. The first is:
