Therefore, the valid cognition of direct perception with an object as its object is also not established, because there is no external object. Therefore, if the statement "External objects are objects possessed, obstructed by the wise" is determined to be spoken in terms of ultimate truth, then it is not established; if it is determined to be spoken in terms of conventional truth, then there is no assertion that the object to be measured is self-characterized, so the previous debate is simply unreasonable. The first chapter of the "Treatise on Examining Objects" from the "Treasury of Logic" has been explained. Next, regarding the knowing consciousness, there are two parts: a general explanation of the nature of consciousness itself, and a specific explanation of the classification of valid and invalid cognitions. The first part is further divided into: the definition of consciousness itself, its classification and aggregation, and the determination of the meaning of these. The first part is: The phenomenon of having awareness is the definition of consciousness, because its counter-entity is the function of cutting off its contradictory entity. The second part is: If consciousness is classified, there will be many types. From the perspective of the object, there are two types: conceptual and non-conceptual. And so on, from the perspective of nature, there are two types: mistaken and non-mistaken. From the perspective of the way of entering, there are three types: like cutting a tree, not entering the object, entering, and having already entered. These are also classified from the perspective of the agent and the action. Among these classifications, from the perspective of being consciousness, they are all gathered into self-awareness, because all things are self-characterized from the perspective of function. The third part is divided into two types: valid cognition and invalid cognition. The first type will be explained below. Invalid cognition is divided into two types: refuting other's positions and establishing one's own position. The first part is divided into generally stating the object to be refuted and refuting the unreasonable aspects. The first part is: Some scholars say that there is no classification because it is infinite, and I have also heard this statement. Chapa and most Tibetans believe that the types of invalid cognition are determined to be five: inference, uncertain appearance, decisive cognition, mistaken cognition, and doubt. The second part is divided into refuting the nature of the classification and refuting the way of classification. The first part is divided into refuting inference, refuting uncertain appearance, and refuting decisive cognition. The first part is divided into stating the previous position and refuting the previous position. The first part is: The definition of inference is: determining that it is consistent with a previously unknown hidden thing without relying on a reason. The classifications are: inference without reason, such as determining that there is water in an old well; and inference with inverted reason, such as determining that the swarm of bees gathered on the burnt meat offering is fire, etc. Old

It is like understanding impermanence from the sign of being made, even without knowing the three aspects of uncertain reasons. Secondly, there are two types of refutation: general refutation and individual refutation. First, examining it is unreasonable, too extreme, and the same as reversing. The first is: Does the discriminating mind rely on being posited as a sign, or does it not rely on it at all? If it is like the latter, then it is the subject of debate, and it will become doubt, and certainty is impossible, because it is a conceptual thought that does not rely on experience or signs, but only holds onto the commitment. If it relies on signs, then does it rely on correct signs or similar signs? If it is like the former, then it will be too much of a valid cognition, because it is a mind that relies on correct signs and newly ascertains the hidden true meaning. If it is not pervasive, then inference will also be too much not a valid cognition. If it is like the latter, then it will become one of the three: non-cognition, wrong cognition, or doubt. Any mind that relies on similar signs, because it does not go beyond the three: contradicting similar signs, uncertain, and unestablished. The second is: If you say that the two discriminating minds with reasons do not belong to the category of minds that rely on the three similar reasons, then there will be a fourth similar reason that is the basis of the discriminating mind, because it is admitted that it relies on similar signs. Furthermore, if the two discriminating minds do not rely on any of the three similar signs, then there will be a third valid cognition other than direct perception and inference, because those two are not any of the two valid cognitions, and it is a mind that relies on signs and newly ascertains the true meaning that was previously not known. If you say that even if the true meaning is newly ascertained, it is not a valid cognition, because it does not cut off superimposition, then inference will also become not a valid cognition, because of the previous commitment. Furthermore, certainty and superimposition will also become not the harmer and the harmed, because even if the true meaning is newly ascertained, it is possible that superimposition will not be cut off. If you admit it, then it contradicts "certainty and superimposition mind," etc. If you say that even if the true meaning is not newly ascertained, thinking "Is there water in the old well?" is true, this is a discriminating mind, thinking "Is there not?" is false, this is wrong view, and holding onto both, hesitating, this is doubt, establishing it as three types of doubting minds, this is not contradictory, then it is unreasonable, because the first example is the dharma.
