How does one proceed in that way? Firstly, there are three aspects: negation, establishment, and abandonment. The first is: one aspect is that the subsequent of the container is not permissible as another branch; some consider it as either the aspect of being pervasive with the property of the subject and concomitance, or pervasive with any of the property of the subject and contradiction; some logicians consider that the thing possessing the property exists in the former, existing in the similar class is the remainder, not seen in the dissimilar class is not seen in general, not harmed by direct perception and scripture is non-contradictory, these are four aspects; some consider it as three aspects and knowing them, thus four aspects; still others consider it as three aspects, and being definite in each number, and having a harmless object, thus five aspects; some consider that on top of the three aspects, for cutting off the sign that brings harm to the object to be proven, it is having a harmless object; for cutting off not being confused with contradiction, it is the same number as intended to be expressed; for cutting off the three aspects not being determined by the mind, it is called certainty. These other subtle aspects from one to six are considered as the definition of a correct sign, but these are mistaken. The first is, if examining not permitting others, it is because of being destructible; the second is also because concomitance includes contradiction in special concomitance, so it is merely the three aspects; the middle three are because they are the transformations of not knowing the three aspects; the latter three of the sixth are also explained in the commentary as unreasonable ways. The second is: if the property of the subject is established and there is a relationship, that is, if there is, there is concomitance, and if it is reversed, the way of pervasive contradiction is truly determined, then this reason is the definition of a correct sign, because there are no three faults of the general definition. The third is: some say that if pervasion of the property of the subject is established as the first way, and special concomitance, or it and special contradiction are two, and it and the establishment of relationship are two, therefore it will become merely the second sign aspect, if so, there is no fault, if there are no two valid cognitions of establishing in the similar class and preventing in the dissimilar class, then the relationship will not be established, and if the relationship is established, then the three aspects of concomitance and contradiction will naturally be established. Also, if merely concomitance is mistaken, and contradiction is included in special concomitance, then concomitance should not infer the fault of contradiction, this fault is also not present, because the concomitance itself that if there is, there is, will not be confused with the contradiction that if it is reversed, it is reversed.

Secondly, if asked, is the correct reason a three-aspect certainty or just an approximate certainty? In response to this, if we refute views other than the three, then a three-aspect approximate certainty is not a correct reason, because it is uncertain and gives rise to doubt. If we list doubts, etc., then it is unestablished, as it says in the Pramāṇaviniścaya: "If there is doubt about oneself or one's basis, then the reason is unestablished, for example, when proving fire, there is doubt about steam, etc., like the aggregation of various elements." Our own view is that a three-aspect certainty is a correct reason, because it is what makes the object to be proven understood. For example, the sound of sense consciousness is not called the ability to grasp objects, but is called grasping. Thirdly, refuting the debate: If certainty is the definition of a reason, then if uncertainty is not a reason, then the seed in the box is also not a seed, this other's accusation is not valid, because certainty is what cuts off doubts, etc. If the seed in the box does not meet with the conditions, it cannot become a seed, and if the reason is uncertain, it is not the cause of understanding. Here, in the auto-commentary, it says that before the three aspects are uncertain, it is not a reason, therefore, from that, the grasping of the reason arises, that is not a reason, but the grasping of the reason arises. If you admit it, then, how is it that things are like this? etc., is contradictory. If asked, we believe that the nature of the reason to be stated is that the grasping of the reason arises from smoke and action, etc., but not from the definition of the reason, the three-aspect certainty. The meaning of what is said is that the three-aspect certainty itself is the grasping of the reason, therefore it arises from the reason to be stated, but the grasping of the reason does not arise from that, which seems to indicate that the grasping of the reason is the conceptual thought that grasps only smoke and action. May my good explanation become the cause of the flourishing of the Dharma. Secondly, regarding the basis of the definition, there are three aspects. First, refuting other's views: Some Indian teachers think that smoke, which is distinguished by the basis of the debate, can be the basis of the definition of the reason, although the smoke of La does not follow the example, but if it is established by measuring the definition of certainty that smoke in general is pervaded by fire, then even the smoke that is different in place, time, and form is established because the doubt that it is not pervaded by fire is cut off, this view is unreasonable. If the reason, such as smoke, etc., is distinguished by the basis of the debate, then if it is not possessed, it is a complete cutting off, then there will be no mother-son debate, because we
