Eye sense direct perception, and its valid cognitions are distinguished separately, then the definitions in order are: arising dependent on the substantial sense faculty as the dominant condition, and not being mistaken about the object to be apprehended; and relying on such a dominant condition, cutting off the imputation of what was not previously realized by the power of experience, such an establishment is wrong, because the refutation has already been stated above. The self-system is: Therefore, the consciousness that relies on the uncommon dominant condition, the substantial sense faculty, is not mistaken. The second (part) has two, the first is to establish that it arises from the sense faculty: The nature of the sense faculty, as some schools, namely the materialists and the Hearers, say, the sense faculty of seeing things, etc., is not established by reasoning, but relying on these substantial sense faculties, focusing on and grasping the objects such as form, etc., it is a power that can independently generate sense consciousness, because (in the scriptures) it says: Co-operative sense power. The reason for quoting this scripture here is to show that both Sutra and Mind equally establish the nature of the sense faculty as power, only for the sake of similarity, not that they are the same in showing the reality as it is. The difference is that the former considers the power to be matter, and the latter considers it to be consciousness. Then, in the case of yogic direct perception, isn't it said that the power is consciousness? Answer: It itself has clarified this meaning, that is, in the case of sense direct perception, it refutes the sense faculty accepted by the Vaibhashikas, and acts like the Sautrantikas. In the case of yogic direct perception, it also refutes it, and abides in the ultimate tenet of this treatise, establishing the previous life, that is, the yogis also because of the difference in wisdom. And so on, and here, when the teacher promises the external object, he acts like the Sautrantikas. And so on, thinking that the method is the same. The meaning lies in the skillful wisdom of contemplating and showing. Arising from it, it is established by the way of following determination, thus, the sense object without interval and the fruit sense consciousness are both not perceived, after the sense object without interval is perceived, because the consciousness that grasps the object is perceived, therefore it is established that it relies on a certain power that it has, like smoke and fire. Or, it is established by the pervasion of negation, that is, if the power that this sense faculty relies on is not complete, then the sense consciousness will not arise, from the sign it is established that it has that power, and that power also

Because it is not appropriate to be a consciousness from the two, matter and consciousness. Secondly, to establish freedom from conceptualization and non-confusion: because the object's own characteristic appears clearly. Like the appearance of two moons, etc., the absence of conceptualization is established by the reason of pervasive contradiction. Because the object's own characteristic is apprehended as the object of apprehension, it is established as non-erroneous. The first proof is the reasoning of "therefore, the mind born from the senses," therefore, it is established that it explains sense perception. Thirdly, what kind of consciousness is similar in that it arises from the three: the dominant condition of the senses, the objective condition of the object, and the immediately preceding condition of attention? Why is it that names are not given in terms of the object and attention, but in terms of the dominant condition, the general sense consciousness and the specific sense perception? The object and attention are also causes for generating other consciousnesses, but at first it is not easy to understand, so names such as object consciousness are not given. The senses are the uncommon cause of that consciousness, so the name sense consciousness is given. For example, the sound of a drum also requires a person and a drumstick, and a sprout also requires earth and water, etc., but one does not say the sound of a drumstick or the sprout of earth, but rather, looking at the uncommon cause, one says the sound of a drum and the sprout of barley. That also, "because it is an uncommon cause," etc., and "if it is said that manifest perception arises," etc., are said. Secondly, identifying the entity of mental perception, determining its nature, and refuting others' arguments against it. First, from among the two types of sense consciousness, the object's second moment and that which is simultaneous with it, the former is the object and the latter is the immediately preceding condition. The sense consciousness that has just ceased at the time of the mental perception that arises from this is the mental faculty, and the non-erroneous consciousness that arises in dependence on its uncommon dominant condition is the definition of mental perception. Most others are confused about the hidden meaning of this text. Secondly, in two parts: establishing the manner of arising as valid, and examining the circumstances of arising. First, if one mental perception arises after the five sense perceptions have ceased simultaneously, then the difference in causes will not produce a difference in effects,
