From the perspective of the basis, the dependent on the sense faculty are two: sense perception and mental perception. The dependent on other-powered is self-awareness. The dependent on samadhi is yogic direct perception, thus dividing into four. From the perspective of the individual, there are two types: the direct perception of ordinary beings and the direct perception of noble ones. This (classification) should be examined to see if the first three direct perceptions directly indicated are those of ordinary beings. So, what is the "other-powered" that is said to be relied upon by self-awareness direct perception? What is the manner of reliance? I will explain, so those with the capacity, please listen attentively. Other-powered is one of the three characteristics. The manner of reliance is reliance in the manner of being of one substance, which is the meaning of self-awareness. So, why is it not said that the other three direct perceptions also rely on other-powered? Because this direct perception is accepted by both Sutra and Mind-Only schools, it must rely on the other-powered that establishes a common appearance for both, and that other-powered is not just individual minds and mental factors, but something that pervades both. Considering these points, it is said to rely on other-powered. If it is explained as relying on the other-powered as the dominant condition, then even if you search for eons, you will not find this meaning. So, when distinguishing from the perspective of the object, it is thought that placing the experienced object as the object is redundant, but it is not, it is merely distinguishing from the perspective of the object and the basis being opposites. In short, if you know the key points of distinguishing direct perception, the beginning, middle, and end, from the perspective of the basis and the experienced object, not only will you realize it effortlessly, but you will also realize the meaning of saying that all knowledge is self-awareness direct perception in its own nature, and when showing the measure and result of sense perception in the second and third measure-results, it is also said that self-awareness is the result. May it be dedicated for the fulfillment of the immaculate intention of the author himself. Regarding the determination of number: So, which school's view are the above three classifications? The four direct perceptions distinguished from the perspective of object and basis are only the view of the Sutra school, because at that time it is necessary to accept external objects, and this is also because it is based on the view of the Sutra school. Even in the view of the Sutra school, it is not from the perspective of essence, because all four are one as self-awareness from the perspective of essence. According to the Vaibhashika school, there are three direct perceptions from the perspective of both object and essence, because they do not accept self-awareness.

According to the Vijnanavada school, there are two types of direct perception, self-awareness and yogic direct perception, from the perspective of both the object and the nature. The first three (eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness) are the same in terms of the object, and the nature is self-awareness. In the realm of the Buddha, the five faculties have been transformed, and the habitual tendencies of dualistic appearance have been abandoned, so there is no sense direct perception and mental direct perception. For sentient beings, only the object that is the same as oneself and the substance is determined to be the direct perception of consciousness, because there is no external object of cognition. The third division is the view of all three philosophical schools, but here only the first division is taken as the basis for calculation. Moreover, the four types of direct perception divided from the perspective of the object are only the view of the Sutra school, because it is based on interpreting the meaning of "Bhikkhus, visual consciousness is of two kinds, namely eye and mind" in the Vinaya. It says in the same text that the Vaibhashika school does not accept self-awareness, so it is certain that there are other three. It also says in the same text that according to the Vijnanavada school, other than the latter two (self-awareness direct perception and yogic direct perception), it is impossible to have sense direct perception and mental direct perception, which is the view of the venerable Dignaga. If some people think that there is no sense direct perception at all in this view, then in conventional terms, there would be no cause for correctly recognizing the benefits and harms of fire and water and making choices. If it exists, then it will not go beyond the direct perception of sense and mind, because it is not determined by inference, and it has been admitted that there is no such appearance in self-awareness. From the sense consciousness that perceives fire and water, etc., when conventionally taking and rejecting fire and water, etc., the objects of taking and rejecting will be confused with each other, because those sense consciousnesses are definitely illusions. As it says in the Pramanavarttika, "By its nature, one knows the function." and "This has no object or appearance." etc. All the valid results of the root text and commentary will change from valid results to inverted results. And "Individual knowing, whatever direct perception, is this." This refers to La's commentary explaining that "Vijnanavada direct perception is a special view of the Vijnanavada school." Through this explanation, may the wisdom of the author's vision pervade all sentient beings. Third, regarding the meaning of each definition object, there are four points: First, regarding sense direct perception, there are definition, establishment, and determining the meaning of words. The first point is divided into two points, first is to negate the views of other schools, most Tibetans
