When directly realizing conditioned phenomena, one indirectly realizes impermanence. In the case of direct perception, when self-awareness establishes the mind's grasping of that object, the appearance of that object is also indirectly established. For example, when the mind directly establishes the function of grasping two moons and blue, the appearance of two moons and blue in the object is also indirectly established. And when other-awareness directly establishes the appearance of the object there, the mind's grasping of that object is also indirectly established. For example, when the object of grasping is directly established as blue, the mind itself is indirectly established as grasping blue. Just as the pervasion of fire in smoke and the shapa tree being a tree are directly established, so the pervasion of no smoke without fire and no shapa tree without a tree are also indirectly established. The method of negation is also such that since grasping the opposite two is pervaded by grasping the single one, when the single grasping of the general is negated, the grasping of the two of the particular is indirectly negated, as it is said. This also needs to be examined, because inference would become indirect realization, because it possesses the definition. If it is said that the valid cognition that cuts off superimposition on other objects is not inference, because inference needs to rely on the sign to cut off superimposition on other objects, while this indirect realization cuts off superimposition on other objects without relying on the sign, then this indirect realization would become a third valid cognition, because it is a valid cognition that cuts off superimposition without relying on the sign. Those methods of refutation and establishment are also unreasonable, because indirect realization is impossible in both direct perception and inference. Second, regarding one's own system, the distinction between the refutation and establishment of objects, and the method of negating the object to be negated after realizing it through valid cognition. First, here only the refutation and establishment of exclusion are explained, so for establishment, there are two: object and knowledge. Each of these is further divided into "is" and "exists," making a total of four. For refutation, there are two that are the opposite of these: object refutation and knowledge refutation. Each of these is further divided into "is not" and "does not exist," making a total of four. Second, refutation and establishment are also accomplished through valid cognition or its power, such as the definite cognition induced by direct perception, or the establishment through inference relying on the establishing sign, and the establishment of non-affirming negation. For example, if there is no cause of confusion in grasping sound as permanent, then when the definite cognition induced by direct perception through its own power determines that sound is impermanent, the impermanence of sound is established. If there is a cause of confusion, then later one needs to rely on the sign.

Because when it is determined that sound is impermanent, that term is used. Also, refutation is established through the definite understanding led by direct perception and the inference based on refutation. Because a clever debater, in the definite understanding led by the self-awareness that experiences pure grasping of the sense faculty, when it is determined that there is no pot in a certain place, refutes the pot. When a fool, in a place where a pot is not observed by valid cognition, determines that there is no pot through reasoning, that term is used. Similarly, pleasure, pain, and the nature of grasping form, grasping sound, etc., are established by self-awareness, and the manner of refutation is clearly explained in the self-commentary. Third, the elimination of debate is, if it is not a valid cognition that is understood by implication, then is there a contradiction with the teacher saying in some parts of the treatise, "understood by implication" or "understood by meaning"? There is no fault. Saying so also refers to determining the object by the power of direct perception, or to the sudden arising of inference by the power of familiarizing with the three modes. In the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it is said that everything that is not established by oneself is an infallible establishment related to oneself, because it depends on others. Therefore, a valid cognition that is not direct perception is only inference. The eighth chapter of the Explanation of Examining Characteristics from the Treasury of Reasoning on Valid Cognition has been explained. Second, in the meaning of each characteristic, there are direct perception and inference. First, direct perception has, correct direct perception, contradictory similar direct perception, valid cognition, and result. First, there are characteristic, the classification of what is to be explained, and the meaning of each characteristic. First, there are two, refuting other's views, some Tibetans separate direct perception and its valid cognition, the characteristic of the first is being free from conceptualization and non-erroneous, and the characteristic of the second is cutting off superimposition by the power of experience on a meaning that was not previously understood, saying this is unreasonable. Dividing into two, it is not said in the treatise, and there is no determination for what was not previously understood, and it has already been explained that wanting experience to cut off superimposition through direct perception is erroneous. Second, one's own view is that the characteristic of direct perception is being free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. This is relying on names to search for meanings, therefore, analyze the two, being free from conceptualization and non-erroneous. Among them, the characteristic of conceptualization, what is said in the scriptures is universal conceptualization and coarse mind.
