Non-conceptual wrong cognition is not an imputation that must be eliminated by valid cognition, because valid cognition and imputation do not occur simultaneously in the same continuum. For example, the sense consciousness of seeing two moons and the valid cognition that ascertains there is no two moons can occur simultaneously in the same continuum. Here, the non-conceptual wrong cognition and the term "object of inference" mentioned below should be understood as being like seeing two moons and like the conceptual universal being a self-characteristic, respectively. Some say that the sudden inference that realizes the fire in the hearth does not cut off imputation, because the fire in the hearth is suddenly realized from a state of not having been realized before, so there was no imputation of apprehending the absence of fire before that. Such an inference itself is an eliminator, because imputation does not occur when it appears. Some assert that some minds before that are wrong cognitions, because their object is apprehending the place without fire as being the same as other places. Second, are the objects of valid cognition and imputation the same or different? If they are different, then the object to be eliminated and the eliminator will not be related, like light and darkness inside and outside. If they are the same, then if the object is established, the object to be eliminated will become non-erroneous, like a valid cognition. If it is not established, then the eliminator will not become a valid cognition, like an imputation. Furthermore, are the entities of these two the same or different? If they are the same, then the object to be eliminated and the eliminator are not reasonable, like a sword blade not cutting itself. If they are not the same, then it is also not reasonable, like the wisdom of a Buddha and the ignorance of sentient beings. Furthermore, if these two are simultaneous, then two cognitions will occur simultaneously, and if they are not simultaneous, then the object to be eliminated and the eliminator are not reasonable, like the rays of the sun and the darkness of the night. These three arguments of investigation do not harm here. Why? Because the first fault does not exist, valid cognition and imputation are not aimed at the object of clinging, but at the object of action being the same, while the object of the mode of clinging is different. Imputation is mistaken, while valid cognition is not mistaken, which is reasonable, because valid cognition is aimed at an existent object, while imputation is aimed at the absence of that object. The second fault does not exist, because these two are different aspects of the same mental continuum. The third fault does not exist, even if they are simultaneous there is no elimination, but in one continuum, first imputation arises, and then valid cognition arises later, merely blocking the opportunity for imputation to arise.

Because definitive cognition dispels superimposition, it is reasonable that definiteness dispels superimposition. Third, there are four points to establishing the meaning expressed by definition: the divisions of what is to be expressed, refuting misconceptions about the basis of definition, explaining how the definition determines the basis of definition, and how it establishes or refutes. The first has four points: the basis of division, the meaning of division, the determination of number, and the meaning of the word. The first has two parts. Refuting other systems: Some Tibetans say that mere valid cognition is not the basis of division, because decisive cognition and reasoning are not valid cognitions, but they are valid cognitions. This is unreasonable, because the existence of valid cognition in what is not valid cognition contradicts both reason and intention, and these two have already prevented intellectual examination. Chokchok says that valid cognition or valid cognition can be divided into two: the appearance of function and the complete engagement in the ability to function. The first is like the appearance of fire cooking and burning, which is the direct cause of the accomplishment of the individual. The second is the mere appearance of fire and so on, which is the indirect cause of the accomplishment of the individual. The first is not the basis of division, because it is not deceptive and has been recognized by oneself, so it is not an object of study in the treatise, and it is determined to be only perception, so there is no second. Therefore, it is wrong to say that only the latter is the basis of division. If the general cannot be the basis of division, and the particular is divided and placed there, then all things such as perception must be done in this way, so it is only too extreme. Second, one's own view is that because the other two views are unreasonable, only valid cognition is the basis of division, because valid cognition and valid cognition are synonyms. The second is: if it is divided, then there are two types: perception and inference. It is necessary to examine whether these two are the same or different: are they different objects like a vase and a mat? Or is it a negation of one like an object and a non-object? Or is it the same entity with different aspects like impermanence? Or is it the same meaning with different names like the moon and the maker of cool rays? For this question, there are three: refutation, establishment, and abandonment. The first is: Yeshe Pal says that it is the second, because the object of inference is a non-object, so it is also a non-object. If so, then these two valid cognitions are not a negation of one, because they are both objects, because inference
