If names are not used, then nomenclature will be discontinued, which should be avoided. It is necessary to avoid being misled by the understanding of discontinuation. The first point is: if the sound and meaning of a pot do not revert from other non-pot things, then it is contradictory to say that it reverts. If it reverts, then the thing becomes the object to be expressed, which is the same as expressing a general thing. If you say so, how can these two be the same? They are not the same. Because the image of conceptual thought does not revert from non-pot things in the ultimate sense, but the appearance of reversion in conceptual thought is an illusion. And the generalities expressed by non-Buddhists are not considered to be illusory appearances. Therefore, they are not the same. As it is said in the scriptures, "Sound with followers, with followers," and so on. The second point is: if the image appearing in conceptual thought is directly expressed by sound, then because it is not different from knowledge, the faults set up for those who consider the self-character of knowledge as the object to be expressed will occur. It is not like that, because there are two kinds of images of things appearing in conceptual thought, among which the form appearing in conceptual thought is the self-character, but its own reversion of self-character is not the direct object to be expressed. Although the part that clings to it as a thing and analyzes it due to illusion is directly expressed, it is unreal. Therefore, the direct object to be expressed is not real. However, naming the image of things appearing in conceptual thought is only for the sake of leading worldly people to enter the self-character of things. As it is said in the scriptures, "External ability lies in discernment," and so on. The third point is: if naming is done on the generality of exclusion, then it is the same as naming on non-possessive actions. It is not like that, if the generality of things is established as substance, then there will be the fault of expressing non-possessive actions, what you say is correct, but the generality of things is unreal. Therefore, the generality of things does not exist in things, therefore if one knows that the real object entered by exclusion does not exist in things, then one will know that there is no expresser and no object to be expressed in the ultimate sense. The fourth point is: if the expresser and the object to be expressed do not exist in things, then it is futile to mistakenly consider the generality of things as self-character and name it, because the scriptures say that mind and phenomena do not rely on things. Therefore, because one cannot trust illusion, all unerring names will be destroyed and discontinued. If you say so, then unerring names
