Due to the fault of establishing in non-Buddhist systems, the Snowland scholars consider the object of realization, the general characteristic of meaning, to be the actual object of expression. The names and signs revered by the Sravakas, which are different from sound, meaning, and consciousness, and are conventionally designated for things like pots, and the compositional factors that do not possess the basis for expressing meaning, are considered to be the actual object of expression. These two have the same meaning and should be refuted from the same perspective. If signs are applied to compositional factors that do not possess the basis for expressing meaning, how can the self-characteristics of forms, etc., be realized? Because these two are unrelated other entities. For example, saying "pot" does not lead to the realization of a cow unrelated to the pot. As it is said, "Names, etc., are without connection." If it is said that although there is no connection between the pot and the name and sign of the pot, and the compositional factors that do not possess the basis for expressing meaning, they are similar in shape, such as having a bulging belly and a narrow neck, so they are mistaken as one, thus referring to the meaning of the pot. Then, the pot and the name and sign of the pot may be mistaken as one in some situations, but not in all situations, because it is only a misidentification due to similarity. For example, although there are two people who look alike, when saying "Give to Lhagyin" to one of them, it is not mistaken as saying it to the other. Moreover, these two may be mistaken at times, but not always, for the same reason as before. Just like offering to the gods, because the offerings and the firewood for the fire offering are also similar, sometimes it is mistaken as offering to the gods, and sometimes it is mistaken as offering firewood. Similarly, here too, misidentification occurs due to similarity, sometimes referring to the self-characteristic of the thing, and sometimes referring to the name and sign. Therefore, these two are not merely mistaken due to similarity, because in the occasion and time of establishing the pot, it is always mistaken as one. As it is said, "If due to similarity in meaning." Second, regarding the view of our own school, it includes: definition, detailed classification, and determining its meaning. First, the definition: what can be understood from the sign is the object of expression, and the sign that enables the meaning to be understood is the definition of the mode of expression. Second, the classification: if classified according to the different people at the time of explanation and understanding, there are four types: the object of expression and the mode of expression at the time of explanation, and the object of expression and the mode of expression at the time of understanding.

因为存在那二者的缘故。讲解时,声音的实际所表达的是声音的意义,执著所表达的是事物的自相;实际的表达者是声音的共相,执著的表达者是声音的自相,这样区分就能精通实相。因此,就像实际所表达的仅仅是无实有一样,实际的表达者也是无实有;就像执著的表达者是自相一样,执著所表达的也安立为事物,这似乎是经论的观点。进入时没有那样的区分,因为那时没有区分自相和共相,而是混淆为一,通过约定俗成来施设,所以在名言时能获得事物的自相。第三部分有三点。第一,论证声音的实际所表达的是不存在的:在胜义谛中,没有任何事物可以被称为“所表达”,因为事物和意识是自相,无法表达;此外,所希望的事物共相和声音意义的共相这二者在事物中是不存在的,因此这四者不是所表达的,因为不可能存在比这些更多的所知。对此曾说:“事物们的共相是什么?”等等。第二,在无有基础上迷惑而进行约定俗成的道理是:那么,所表达的是什么呢?是认知本质上迷惑,以声音意义的方式,外境的影像或模糊的共相显现,对此外境事物执著并增益的部分,就是认知所安立的声音的实际所表达。第三,通过施设于迷惑而理解自相的合理性是:那么,通过施设于安立而获得自相是什么呢?即使约定俗成的认知是迷惑的,但从约定俗成中获得真实的事物是合理的,因为在安立上显现为迷惑的无始以来的习气串习,在约定的时刻,不区分共相和自相而混合约定,在名言的时刻,也不区分共相和自相而混合运用,因此才能理解自相。对此曾说:“在那之上显现为自体。”等等。第三部分,遣除诤论有五点:遣除与认为事物共相是所表达相同;遣除与认为意识自相是所表达相同;遣除与认为不相应行是所表达相同;

Because those two exist. When explaining, the actual object expressed by sound is the meaning of sound, and the object of attachment is the self-character of things; the actual expresser is the general sound, and the expresser of attachment is the self-character of sound. By distinguishing in this way, one becomes proficient in reality. Therefore, just as the actual object expressed is only non-existent, the actual expresser is also non-existent; just as the expresser of attachment is the self-character, the object of attachment is also established as a thing, which seems to be the view of the scriptures. There is no such distinction when entering, because at that time, self-character and generality are not distinguished, but confused as one, and applied through convention, so the self-character of things can be obtained in nominal terms. The third part has three points. First, proving that the actual object expressed by sound does not exist: In the ultimate sense, there is nothing that can be called "expressed," because things and consciousness are self-character, and cannot be expressed; in addition, the desired general thing and the general meaning of sound do not exist in things, so these four are not expressed, because it is impossible to have more knowable things than these. It was said, "What is the generality of things?" etc. Second, the way of applying conventions by being confused on a non-existent basis is: So, what is expressed? It is the appearance of the image of the external environment or the vague generality in the way of the meaning of sound, due to the confusion of the nature of cognition, and the part that is attached to and superimposed on the external environment is established by cognition as the actual object expressed by sound. Third, the rationality of understanding self-character by applying it to confusion is: So, what is it to obtain self-character by applying it to establishment? Even if the conventional cognition is confused, it is reasonable to obtain real things from convention, because the beginningless habit of appearing as confusion on establishment is accustomed to, and at the time of convention, generality and self-character are mixed and agreed upon without distinction, and at the time of nominal terms, generality and self-character are also mixed and used without distinction, so self-character can be understood. It was said, "It appears as itself on that." etc. The third part, refuting disputes, has five points: Refuting the same as thinking that the generality of things is expressed; refuting the same as thinking that the self-character of consciousness is expressed; refuting the same as thinking that non-associated formations are expressed;
