Because I am the difference of the object of cognition. The third has two parts: the reason for not being a suitable object of appearance, and the refutation of the unreasonableness of that. The first is: non-existent things, as a subject, are not knowable from the perspective of appearance, because they do not exist from the perspective of essence. Because it does not exist from its own essence, it is not a knowable thing from the perspective of appearance, therefore, it is only by designating the part of the object to be eliminated as non-existent that it is grasped by cognition and expressed by words. It is like calling the space outside, where the place of form is eliminated, as space, which is designated from the perspective of elimination. Those who do not understand this kind of explanation will say that the root has the fault of repetition. The second is to refute the similarity with existent things, to refute the contradiction with valid cognition, to refute the contradiction with fame, and to refute the contradiction with scripture. The first is: some Tibetans say that although the essence of existent things is not established in non-existent things, the essence of non-existent things themselves is established. If it becomes impossible to establish the essence because the essence of existent things is not established, then it will also become impossible to establish the essence in existent things, because the essence of non-existent things is not established there. Answer: It is not the same, because the existent thing is produced from its own cause, it does not need to rely on preventing the absence of the existent thing, it appears in the face of non-conceptualization, and it is established by elimination in the face of conceptualization. And the non-existent thing is not born from cause, because the essence is not established, so it cannot be established as the essence by appearing in the face of non-conceptualization, and it needs to prevent the existent thing to be eliminated, and then it can be established by elimination in the face of conceptual mind. The second is: although rabbit horns and the son of a barren woman, etc., have no essence, but like unconditioned space, and the two moons in a delusion and the two generalities, are all established from the power of self-awareness that experiences the mind appearing in them, that is, the power itself. If so, then the objects of these minds are existent in meaning, if you say so. Because only the division of preventing existent things is established as non-existent, therefore, there is no valid cognition that realizes that the three unconditioned things and the two deluded objects are established in meaning, because those images appearing in the mind are consciousness, and the two moons, etc., that are desired as external objects, cannot be measured by direct valid cognition. If space does not exist in meaning, then the appearance of space as blue, and the appearance of the hole in the mouth as space, are contradictory to seeing with direct perception, if you say so. The space of decoration and holes is direct perception.

What is seen is: If space exists in reality, then it is not a valid proof. Appearing as blue is a color, so it should not be space. The holes in houses, etc., are merely not seeing the obstructed objects such as walls, but space is not formed by any form, etc., and if it is formed, it will not be free from the previous faults. Therefore, it is also like that. Because it is unreal, without self-nature. Thus, etc., it is said. Third, if space does not exist in reality, then the mere appearance of space in the world contradicts the examples in the scriptures. If asked, there is no valid measure to prove that space exists in reality. Because it does not exist in either consciousness or the self-characteristic of meaning, it is not established by self-awareness and sense-awareness direct perception. Space, which does not exist in reality, has no two connections with any dharma. Therefore, it is also not established by inference. Fourth, if all unconditioned phenomena are not established by their own nature, then it contradicts the statement that they are permanent. Answer: It does not contradict. That is, the heretics such as the Vaisheshikas and the name within the Hearers, the Vaisheshika school, these two permanent proponents, allow all phenomena of the sense bases to be established as real, so they also allow space to be a permanent real. Dharmakirti sometimes said that space is permanent, only establishing the name of permanence on non-impermanent phenomena, but not allowing it to be established in reality. Second, the meaning of the intermediate is shown as: Sense consciousness is like a mute person with eyes, although it directly sees the meaning, it cannot express the meaning it sees. Conceptual thought is like a blind person who speaks well, although it can establish names in general, it does not know how to express them as they are because it has not seen the meaning. Like the self-awareness with complete senses, it can experience the two images of the meaning and say, "It is like this," and can express the names of those two objects well. That is the intermediate verse. Third, refutation, there are five refutations of arguments: Refuting that expression is impossible without generality. Refuting that if it is other-exclusion, there is the fault of mutual dependence. Refuting that other-exclusion is not established without an object to be excluded. Refuting that it is unreasonable to examine whether exclusion is established on things or not. Refuting that if there is no generality in exclusion, there is no common basis.
