5. Three ways in which conceptual imputation is not allowed on the field of appearance. The first is: for direct perception, things like 'made' and 'impermanent' do not appear as different entities; blue and yellow, etc., do not appear as one. Therefore, the fact that direct perception is a valid cognition does not depend on ascertaining its own object, because it is non-conceptual. The second is: abandoning what contradicts scripture; if it is not actually ascertained, then abandoning what contradicts valid cognition. The first is: if someone says that it contradicts statements such as "It is not the fruit of ascertaining existence or non-existence," it does not contradict, because it is referring to drawing ascertainment by either one's own power or the power of others. The second is: of the two arguments and answers, the first is: if there is no actual ascertainment, then it contradicts valid cognition. The answer is: the way in which direct perception negates and affirms. If there is ascertainment, then there are two contradictions with direct perception. The first is: if someone asks, "Then what is direct perception as a valid cognition? How does it negate and establish?" Direct perception, the subject, is established as a valid cognition for all objects of its own field, because it is free from conceptuality and non-mistaken. Direct perception, this subject, has a way of negating and affirming, because it draws ascertainment from its own power or the power of another valid cognition, and it negates and affirms by the power of ascertainment. Moreover, because there is no cause for confusion about color, the cause for understanding is clear through habituation, and there is trust, it draws from its own power, i.e., "abandoning the particular parts." So it is said. When there is a cause for confusion, such as the appearance of other similarities in its impermanence, it cannot do so by its own power, so it is ascertained from others, i.e., "seeing the form and qualities are similar." And so on. The second is: if there is ascertainment, then there are two contradictions with direct perception. Establishing the ascertainment of the blue exclusion as conceptual, the way of cutting off superimposition by ascertainment, that is the teacher's intention. The first is: although exclusion of others is allowed in an instant, if someone says that this ascertainment of blue is conceptual, so it is not direct perception, and because it does not rely on a sign, it is not inference either, and because it has not cut off the contradictory, it cannot be an exclusion of others, then, after all the objects of blue are seen by direct perception, and after that, thinking 'this is blue,' the way of ascertaining by the general aspect of the exclusion of blue, this subject, is entered by excluding others, because it is a conceptualization that enters into an object that has not superimposed blue as non-blue. Also, it is said, "What is the knowledge that contradicts seeing?" And so on. Therefore, the object of entry is the blue self-character.

Therefore, it is obtained because, regarding the general characteristic of blue as blue, it enters. When looking inward, it is considered direct perception because it is self-cognizance. Moreover, conceptual thought is also considered self-cognizance itself. Thus it is said. Second, for any mind that has certainty, it should be known that it can cut off superimposition, because the two are contradictory and do not coexist. Certainty and superimposition mind. Thus it is said. Third, because it enters by eliminating both the mind of certainty and superimposition, therefore, the wise say that they do not enter as direct perception, that is, in the manner of establishing. Third, there are three ways in which sound conceptualization does not enter the appearing object: First, if it appears, then it would be inferred that negation and affirmation are realized simultaneously, because when negating non-createdness on a pot, permanence is also negated, and when affirming createdness, impermanence is also affirmed, the two would be realized simultaneously, because if sound and conceptualization measure the object through the mode of appearance, then what is being measured? Because the createdness and impermanence of a pot are one entity. Second, all names of one meaning are synonymous, because for one meaning like a pot, even if multiple names such as createdness and impermanence are not taken, the names or sounds are synonymous, and there would be no different necessity, because the name 'pot is created' also expresses that 'pot is impermanent'. Moreover, elsewhere, a single object. Thus it is said. Third, if distinguishing by opposites, it will become elimination, if it is said that these two sounds will not become synonymous, because the opposites of createdness and impermanence are different, then if the opposites of createdness and impermanence are different, and the sounds individually distinguish the meaning expressed, then it is established that the actual object of the sound is elimination. Therefore, to assume that the actual object of the sound is appearance is a mistake, because for elimination, it is merely taking the name of a thing. Second, the definition of elimination, determining its nature, and abandoning the debate of elimination, are three. First, relying on cutting off the direct contradiction of that object and entering into that object, is the object of the elimination of the other of that object, that is, it is considered the definition of elimination entering, and to consider the superimposition that appears there after cutting off its direct contradiction, is the definition of the elimination of its other. Second, there are the aspects of elimination, and its detailed classification. First, there is the establishment of the object, the mind
