So, generally speaking, does it arise and cease? If it doesn't, it won't become a single entity. If it does, then the various things related to trees, which contradict each other in place, time, and form, will arise and cease in the same place, at the same time, and in the same essence, that is, in the same form. Therefore, the overall tree, which is the same entity as these things, will arise and cease in the same place, at the same time, and in the same form. If arising and ceasing are not like this, then as the essence of a generality, since they are the same entity, when one arises, the other does not arise, and so on, these two contradict each other. If this is established from the perspective of certainty, then not being established or having different causes is not reasonable in nature. Combine these with the above. The third part has three aspects. First, the inference that parts cannot be excluded: How can one deny the existence of a single entity with parts that is pervasive, such as in the head? It cannot be denied. Because the generality of just trees and the individual parts, such as sala trees and cedars, are the same entity. To this, it can be said: Whatever is the same entity as multiple things is necessarily not the same entity. For example, yews in different containers. You have admitted that an entity with parts is also the same entity as multiple things. If, conversely, one argues that a single entity with parts can be excluded through self-sustaining reasoning, then the same applies to the generality. Second, the inference that sensory consciousness is conceptual: The sensory consciousness that grasps sala trees must also be conceptual, because it is a consciousness that takes the generality of just trees as its appearing object. This is not universally applicable; if it grasps the generality of meaning, it is a concept, but if it grasps the generality of kind, it is not. If one believes that there is a generality of kind that is not included in the generality of meaning, it is as unreasonable as believing that there is an ocean without water. Third, the inference that contradictory things are the same entity: White and blue, etc., different entities, and contradictory things such as light and darkness, will all become the same entity. If one of these things is the same entity as something, then the other being the same entity as that thing is not universally applicable. If this is admitted, then even if it is thought to be blue, it will become white, etc., and everything will become confused. The second view is that some people believe that although there is no single generality in which all individuals are the same entity, there are multiple generalities that are related to each individual, such as sala trees, in the manner of being the same entity. The refutation of the second view is: If there are multiple generalities, then the generality of sala trees will become a double negation, and

Therefore, it is too much to say that the unique reversal of the characteristic of generality does not hold on you, the dharma-possessor. Moreover, the establishment of affirmation and negation will also be destroyed, because even if the shala tree is established, the generality of other trees is not established; even if the generality of the shala tree is negated, other trees will not be negated. Thirdly, there are two types: refuting similarity in meaning and refuting similarity in mind. The first is: Some do not accept that generality is one or many, but rather that shala trees and sandalwood, etc., have branches and leaves, and are the same in nature, so generality is one, and the differences such as shala trees are one substance. The same generality and difference are not one substance, because it is a dharma of the mind of discrimination, so it does not exist in meaning, because establishing each other as the same is discrimination. Otherwise, when one first sees a previously unseen red lotus, one will also have the thought: this is similar to other red lotuses. If similarity exists in meaning, then it already exists. In this regard, one can combine it with "seeing and similarity, therefore holding it" etc. The second is: Some think that there is no generality that is the same in meaning, but there is a generality that is held as the same through discrimination. If so, the view that generality and difference are one substance is destroyed. Indeed. If one considers it to be the same generality merely by holding it as the same through discrimination, what will happen? This is unreasonable, because it is impossible for oneself to be the same as oneself, so the same can only be many. It is impossible for many things to be one, and for things that are not one, using the word "generality", there is no case where sound, mind, and meaning are consistent. Even if it does not appear as one, is merely holding it as the same generality? If a generality does not appear as one in the mind, even if it is held as the same through discrimination, it cannot become a generality. If it is possible, then when expressing with generality as the object, one will not say "wood, give me!", but will say "wood like a shala tree, give me!" and so on. Saying this cannot establish meaning, because shala trees and partial similarities exist in all things, and things that are similar in all parts do not exist anywhere. Secondly, refuting from the scriptures: generality is not real, and it and differences etc. are one substance, which also seems to contradict the establishment of reason spoken by the King of Reason, because the mind of generality is also false. The three roots of the *Fundamental Wisdom* and the
