For example, mistaking the present blue for the past blue is a temporal misperception; mistaking the commonality of musk and sandalwood as one is a misperception of the object, there are three types of misperception. The second is the misperception of sense consciousness and the two types of non-conceptual mental consciousness. The definition of the third is: although the mind clings to its own object, the mind that has the possibility of clinging to a non-object while the function of clinging to the object has not disappeared is the representative of hesitation. If classified, there are two types, namely manifest hesitation and latent hesitation. The first is the actual occurrence of hesitation, which is further divided into equal clinging and biased clinging. Latent hesitation is like a seed in a box, having the ability to change when encountering conditions, i.e., all inferences that rely on uncertain signs, and situations that do not rely on inference, such as thinking there is water in an old well, or thinking there is no water, etc. Second, the classification of the two valid cognitions (pramana) is generally considered to include self-awareness as its own essence. Specifically, it only belongs to valid cognition, because it is non-deceptive consciousness. The three classifications of non-valid cognition, in essence, are no different from ignorance, because none of the three can be established as non-deceptive. The above is the concluding verse. In addition, the word "two" is a word that includes both the two valid cognitions and the three non-valid cognitions. The first two lines do not contradict "from the perspective of consciousness, self-awareness is one," because it shows that for perception and inference, non-valid cognition does not exist, thus distinguishing that perception has two non-valid cognitions, and that the previously unknown self-character is determined as non-valid cognition, which is the meaning of "only." The latter two lines show that for the three non-valid cognitions, it is impossible to recognize their own objects. Therefore, since definitive consciousness and non-deception have a common basis, it is definitive. If summarized in essence, it is one, which does not contradict the above. This is my good explanation. As for others, if even conceptual thought has not arisen, then what is there to say about truly recognizing and showing it to others? The explanation of the second chapter on the analysis of mind from "The Treasure of Reasoning on Valid Cognition" is completed. Third, regarding how the mind recognizes objects, it is divided into four parts. The first part is about how to recognize universals and particulars, divided into three points: a general introduction to the classification of objects and subjects, and the meaning of substance and negation.

Refuting the desire to confuse. Specifically analyzing the differences in the ways of understanding universals and particulars. First, there are two aspects: first, analyzing the nature of things, and second, determining how to establish it. The first aspect is: The characteristic of non-conceptual cognition that apprehends through the appearance of self-characteristics, because they establish the opposite by cutting off the actual contradictions between them. Cognition that apprehends through the elimination of universals is the characteristic of conceptualization, as the reason is explained earlier. When there are both self-characteristics and universals, the six, such as self-characteristics, are the same in the meaning of things, because they possess the four attributes such as the ability to perform functions. This also aligns with the statement in the Pramāṇavārttika, "Appearance also does not depend on others," etc. If it is said that this contradicts statements such as "also returning from others," etc., and "stating substance and thing for all," etc., then there is no fault, because the literal meaning of the text, such as returning, has two meanings: abiding in meaning and the object of elimination. The eight, such as universals, are not established as things, because they do not abide in meaning, etc., which also aligns with the statement in the Pramāṇavārttika, "Because the opposite lacks self-nature," etc. The second aspect is: substance, opposite, universal, particular, and establishment, i.e., appearance, elimination of others, conceptualization, and non-conceptualization, i.e., the classifications of the object of knowledge and the subject of knowledge of non-conceptualization, are explained by other Tibetans as different from the views of the scriptures. Sometimes the three, such as substance, are explained as objects of non-conceptualization, and the three, such as opposite, are explained as objects of conceptualization, and sometimes they are explained as not the same. Sometimes they are explained as mental phenomena, and sometimes they are explained as objective phenomena. Sometimes universals are regarded as establishment, and sometimes universals are regarded as negation. Therefore, in general, particulars are opposites, but the particular here is returning, because "these arise from particulars." Just as it is said, "Therefore, particulars are the qualities of universals." If one is confused about this and regards particulars as self-characteristics, then one has not even touched the edge, because in that case, one would have to regard establishment as self-characteristics. I want to explain it according to the views of the scriptures, as I said earlier in the classification of object and subject. In this way, the three, such as substance, and the three, such as opposite, are the objects of knowledge, and non-conceptualization and conceptualization are the knowing mind, appearance and elimination.
