Therefore, it is unreasonable to count it as one. The second case is about not holding the Three Jewels, etc. If it is considered that it is impossible to hold them as they are due to the power of the antidote, then it should not be considered a downfall, because if merely being unable to actually give the four kinds of generosity constitutes a downfall, then it would be too extreme. The third case is, if it is considered that they are abandoned with a mind that does not need them, then it contradicts the phrase "in addition to that", because when connected with the phrase "should not be abandoned and discarded", it not only means the previous abandonment of the Three Jewels, etc., but also if the body and speech are also discarded, it will become a downfall, and it must also be explained as "in addition to that, if the fourteen are abandoned and discarded, it will be said to be a root downfall", because in the great commentary on the "Glorious Supreme Second Chapter", it says: "Merely with thought, all these are accomplished, what is the use of these mudras, etc.?", therefore, if these are completely abandoned, it will become a downfall. And again, it says in the same text: "The Dharma of the three vehicles should not be completely abandoned." If asked how to know, denigrating the holy Dharma spoken in the Hearer Vehicle, or spoken in the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, or spoken in the Great Vehicle, destroys all roots of virtue, becomes a downfall, and is the Avici hell, etc., because it is said in the Sutra of the Noble Akashagarbha. Therefore, the previous abandonment and discarding of the fourteen vows is said to be a downfall, and here it must be explained as abandoning and discarding other vows besides those. Some later lamas say that these words proclaiming the vows, like those from the Vajrasekhara Sutra, also come from some Anuttarayoga tantra rituals, and the words for taking the vows come from the Vajrasekhara, the Samputa, and the Vajra Dakini, all three, therefore the vows and precepts to be taken are also common to both Yoga and Anuttarayoga. Therefore, the fourteen downfalls mentioned here are the fourteen root downfalls of Anuttarayoga. This is a mistake, because the previous arguments can only prove that the vows and precepts taken in Yoga are common to Anuttarayoga, but the vows and precepts of Anuttarayoga
