The Buddha said that he showed birth in the Shakya clan, so the phrase "taking birth in the Shakya clan" is an explanation of his race. In Arya Deva's "Sequence of Manifest Enlightenment," it says: Manifest enlightenment is of two kinds, namely outer and inner. The outer is the Sutra, Yoga, and Tantra, residing in the immovable Vajra. The Buddhas urge, saying: This cannot attain the ultimate, like the center of the sky, it is supreme. After attaining the state of luminosity, it is spoken of in the Bhagavat, the place of self-enjoyment. Thus, by meditating on all as emptiness, one manifests enlightenment at the Bodhi tree. To the Bodhisattva Dondup (义成, Meaning Accomplished), the Sugatas of the four castes showed five manifest enlightenments. Likewise, that Bodhisattva, by meditating on the five manifest enlightenments, manifested enlightenment at the Bodhi tree. In Vairochana and Vajradhatu, manifesting enlightenment is the outer way. The inner is the inner way of secret mantra, for the sake of sentient beings with desire. The Bhagavan Vairochana, entering into samadhi, gathers his retinue and emanates forms, the appearance of three kinds of bliss. From the subjugation of luminosity and non-discrimination, the Bhagavat blesses and generates the palace. Blessing as the lord of mantra, he dwells in the center like a three-faced one. The Dharma-speaking retinue arises in order, that is the inner Bodhi. Or, the outer nature of the inner, relying greatly on the Mudra consort, transcending the sequential experience of the three appearances, all is emptiness and luminosity, obtained from the Guru's oral instructions, that is called the outer of the inner. The inner of the inner is without Mudra consort, initially like a mirage, the appearance of five lights, bliss, non-conceptual, three experiences, transcending the three is the three itself. The nature of all-knowing, is obtained from the Guru's oral instructions. Thus it is said. In the chapter composed by Shakya Mitra in the Second Stage, it says: Bearing the thirty-two marks, possessing the eighty minor marks, possessing excellence in all ways, from then on, one becomes all-knowing. Thus, in the "Extensive Play Sutra," it says: Shakyamuni Tathagata, desiring manifest enlightenment here, manifestly intends that the great emptiness is the Buddha himself, wanting to attain it.

On the bank of the Nairañjanā River, He remained in unwavering samadhi. At that time, the Victorious One, as Vajra of Space, Remained like a sesame pod filled to the brim. The Victorious One's son, with cymbals, Spoke to him with a single tone: "With this meditation, there is no complete purification, With this, ultimate attainment is not achieved. Like the face of the sky, supremely excellent, Luminous clarity, focus on that! Having attained the state of luminous clarity, You will be born into a self-willed form. At that time, the body of Rabga Dorje (Supreme Joy Vajra) Will attain mastery over all." Having heard that sound in this way, From then on, he abandoned the unwavering samadhi. In this way, at midnight, The Victorious One's son focused on that itself. The body is neither straight, Nor is it not straight. There is neither exhaling nor inhaling, There is neither speaking nor not speaking. The beautiful eyes are neither closed, Nor are the eyes open. All is empty, greatly wondrous, The great wisdom, clear and lucid. Through the kindness of the Lama himself, From then on, he clearly saw that itself. The past and the future, And the three existences that arise in the present, In that instant, he saw them all. Luminous clarity possesses complete purity. With diamond-like samadhi, At the time of dawn, Water moons and mirages, etc., Adorned with the qualities of illusion. Having sat at the Bodhi tree, He subdued the maras. The Protector of the Shakyas, with true, Supreme wisdom, having skillfully attained, For the sake of protecting and benefiting beings, Here he teaches that itself. Teaching manifest enlightenment, That is said to be wisdom. Thus it was said. From the Bindu of Liberation by the great mandala master Buddha Jñānapāda: Why did Shakyamuni, Accumulate merit for countless eons, Yet not realize this meaning, at the Nairañjanā, Remain in meaningless samadhi? At that time, all the Sugatas also, Turned back that foolish one, Profoundly clear, like the realm of space, completely pure, The non-duality was well taught. At midnight, like a fainting spell, Having meditated on that itself, at dawn, In an instant, he truly realized it. Having sat at the Bodhi tree, With great force, he completely subdued the maras, For the sake of taking hold of sentient beings, He turned the wheel of Dharma.
