Repeatedly familiarizing oneself through the power of time, etc., is the samaya of the means tantra. Thus, by familiarizing oneself with the path, ultimately gathering all appearing phenomena into the nature of the three secrets is the samaya of the resultant tantra. One accomplishes this by practicing oneself, and accomplishes it by properly teaching disciples. Because it is the very nature of the venerable guru, all buddhas, offering praise to it is the custom of the Vajrayana. This is a praise offering that accords with the subject matter of the body of the treatise, implying that a treatise will be composed with those samayas as the subject matter, this is the vow. How then to ascertain those subjects? In order to closely establish its explanation, first establishing the vajra words to be spoken, is what was said by the venerable Drakpa Gyaltsen, who possesses a mind that has exhausted the stains of delusion: "One's own mind, primordially free from elaboration, the cause tantra, and the wisdom of empowerment, the view of the path, and experience, are of one essence with the buddha ground. The difference in realization is shown by the example of the moon." This is what was said. Explaining the meaning of the words slightly, one's own mind is skillful means and wisdom, clear and unceasing. Primordially free from elaboration is the nature of emptiness, the union of these two is the cause tantra. There, all appearances, from the aspect of samaya, are also established as the samaya of the cause tantra, and will be explained. The wisdom of empowerment is that very union arising as the nature of experience at the time of empowerment. The view of the path is the view that introduces the wisdom of empowerment, samsara and nirvana are inseparable, and the view arising from meditating on the four paths, the three natures, etc., are four. Experience is the experience of the wisdom of the meaning to be indicated, that is, thirteen and a half bhumis. These are the means tantra, and the manner of establishing the samaya of the means tantra will also be clarified in the context of establishing it by the five, such as place. The buddha ground is half of the thirteenth bhumi, it is the resultant tantra, and the manner of establishing the samaya of the resultant tantra will also be explained. Thus, the three tantras are one, inseparable in essence, that is, the very cause tantra arises as wisdom at the time of empowerment, and at the stage of the path, it is experienced as view, and so forth.

The difference in realization is illustrated by the example of the moon: Wanting to see the moon in the sky, understanding it in a general way by describing the moon's color and shape, etc., is similar to the way of realization in the Paramita Vehicle. This is like looking at the reflection of the moon in the water with one's eyes, directly seeing it in the manner of an example through the wisdom arising from both empowerment and stages. From the first to the thirteenth bhumi, just as the actual parts of the moon gradually increase from the first to the fifteenth day, the actual parts of the stainless dharmadhatu are seen more and more clearly. As the venerable Nagarjuna said: 'Like the fourteenth day of the dark moon, when the moon is slightly visible, so too, for those who have faith in the supreme vehicle, the body of the Buddha is slightly visible. Just as the moon gradually increases, seen increasing moment by moment, so too, those who have entered the bhumis, are seen gradually increasing. Just as on the fifteenth day of the white moon, the moon becomes full, so too, having reached the end of the bhumis, the dharmakaya is also complete and clear.' So it is said. The symbol of mantra, the example of looking at the reflection of the moon in the water with the wisdom of example, has been explained by the venerable one in other scriptures. Here, the example of the fourteenth day of the dark moon is taken in terms of the view of the Paramita Vehicle. Now, since both the fourteenth day of the dark moon and the first day of the moon are actual parts of the moon, there is no difference. Would it be thought that there is also no difference between the views of the stage of faith and the first bhumi? The fourteenth day of the dark moon is the remainder of the decrease of the previous fifteenth day of the moon, it is not the beginning of an upward increase. Taking this as an example, the way of seeing the dharmakaya in the stage of faith is the realization gained from hearing and thinking about the scriptures that are the common cause of the previous Buddhas' realization of the dharmakaya. Because it is combined with not directly seeing the part of the dharmakaya that will arise in one's own continuum, there is no fault. Wanting to praise the vajra words through examples, it is said: 'Hearing these words is pleasant like hearing the music of the Gandharvas, thinking about these words is extremely joyful like tasting nectar, practicing these words fulfills desires like a wish-fulfilling jewel, possessing these three examples, these words are different from all others.' These are easy to understand.
