Because of the distinction between the Sangha and individuals, an individual refers to a Bhikshu. It is also established by explaining that confessing transgressions and the object of confession are not those who have not taken the full ordination. If one cannot be the object of confessing transgressions, then it is contradictory to be the object of taking vows. 8) "Where is the clear ritual of the Upavasa according to the Vinaya tradition?" The answer is: Omniscient Buton said: This ritual has never appeared in the Vinaya Pitaka, nor has it ever appeared in the commentaries on the Vinaya. The Sutra of Establishing Abiding states: A son or daughter of good family, endowed with faith, who wishes to abide in the Upavasa endowed with the eight noble limbs, should rise in the morning and go to a Bhikshu or a Brahmin, or anyone else who knows the ritual, expose one shoulder, kneel on the ground with the right knee, and say these words: I, named so-and-so, from this time until this night and until the sun rises tomorrow, abandon killing, return from killing, abandon sticks, abandon weapons, be ashamed, and for all sentient beings and creatures, even the smallest creatures above ants, abandon killing, and return from killing. Just as those noble Arhats abandoned killing for as long as they lived, returned from killing, abandoned sticks, abandoned weapons, and for all sentient beings and creatures, even the smallest creatures above ants, also abandoned killing, and returned from killing, so too, I, so-and-so, from this time until this night and until the sun rises tomorrow, abandon killing, return from killing, abandon sticks, abandon weapons, be ashamed and compassionate, and for all sentient beings and creatures, even the smallest creatures above ants, also abandon killing, and return from killing. With this first limb, I follow the training of those noble Arhats. Follow
