Because I am a noble being, I admit that there is unwholesomeness in his continuum. Furthermore, even if the intention at that time was unwholesome, the intention at the time of the cause was wholesome, so it is appropriate to admit it as a mixed action. How can it be admitted as unwholesome? Think carefully. Thirdly, it contradicts the statement in the scriptures that the action of the leader of merchants, great compassion, killing the deceitful merchant can eliminate the accumulation of ninety thousand eons, because that action is unwholesome. Even if it is unwholesome, if it can eliminate the accumulation, then all sentient beings will become Buddhas from the very beginning, because it is impossible for sentient beings not to commit unwholesome actions. Therefore, the view that all appearances of body and speech that are unwholesome must have intentions that correspond to unwholesomeness is simply a failure to understand the fourfold classification of transgressions explained in the great vehicle's pitaka. 40) If the compassion of the unwise is considered a cause of bad migrations, how would it be if it were analyzed as a projecting cause or a completing cause? This was supposed to come up earlier, but since it's written here, the answer is: It's not that compassion itself leads to bad migrations. Rather, it's because of wanting one's relatives to have happiness and be free from suffering that one engages in actions like killing and stealing, and it's the lack of skill in understanding cause and effect that leads to bad migrations. So, it can be a projecting cause or a completing cause. What fault is there in saying that? 41) Regarding the statement, "Even for lay practitioners and novice monks who strive in vows," and the statement that all transgressions are pervaded by sin, and the question, "Why does the venerable one say that prohibited transgressions are indeterminate?" This was supposed to come up later, but since it's written here, the answer is: There are two aspects: correcting the basis of error and eliminating groundless errors by explaining the meaning of the scriptures. First, in the "Analysis of Root Transgressions," it says: "There are two kinds of faults: natural and prohibited. Among them, natural refers to faults of mind, and prohibited refers to faults of body and speech. Natural is a fault even for ordinary people, and prohibited is a fault for those who have taken vows. Natural is a root transgression, and prohibited is a branch transgression.

It is said that there is no contradiction seen in any of these three aspects. Because all faults arise from the mind, if one has an unwholesome mind, even small things will lead to downfall. If the actions of body and speech are without malice, then most actions are uncertain. For the Shravakas, it is prescribed because it becomes a minor offense. For Bodhisattvas, although there may be cases where precepts are not prescribed, if they have great good intentions, they will become the shadow of downfall. Therefore, having great malice is considered the root or nature, while having slightly minor ten unwholesome deeds becomes a branch or prescription. This is the fault of prescription. It is said that this is the source of misunderstanding, and it seems that someone said that the venerable one said that all prescribed downfalls are uncertain. The second point is that the venerable one's intention is that all actions of body and speech with an unwholesome mind are downfalls, and most actions of body and speech without an unwholesome mind are said to be uncertain. And, for the Mahayana, even becoming a prescribed downfall must have an unwholesome mind, so it is clear that prescribed downfalls are considered unwholesome, because they are actions of body and speech with an unwholesome mind. If someone thinks that most actions of body and speech without an unwholesome mind are uncertain, this shows that prescribed downfalls are uncertain, that is very unreasonable. Because having slightly minor ten unwholesome deeds is a branch or prescription. This is the fault of prescription. It is said that this clearly shows that if one does not have an unwholesome mind, one will not become a prescribed downfall. Otherwise, if the venerable one has a clear scripture saying that prescribed downfalls are uncertain, then now is the time to show it. 42) The Shravaka school has eighteen divisions, and there are eighteen Vinayas. Where is there a clear explanation? It is said that the Vinaya was written down at the time of the Third Council. At that time, were all eighteen Vinayas written down? In response to this question, in the question of the age of the Bhikshu it says, thus divided into eighteen divisions, the teachings of Shakya Simha, became the teacher of beings, the previous...
