I. (This is) in order to transform the semblance of the sacred Dharma into one of the two. Second, the forty-six kinds of faults of the limbs are: thirty-four that contradict the accumulation of virtue, and twelve that contradict benefiting sentient beings. In the first, there are seven that contradict generosity, nine that contradict ethics, four that contradict patience, three that contradict diligence, three that contradict meditative concentration, and eight that contradict wisdom. In the first, one does not make offerings to the Three Jewels in three ways. This refers to contradicting material generosity. To follow with a mind of desire refers to falling away from the antidote to miserliness. One does not respect the elderly, and one does not answer questions. These two are not in accordance with the giving of fearlessness. One does not treat guests as one's own, and one does not accept gold and so on. These two are not helping others' generosity. One does not give to those who desire the Dharma. This refers to not giving the Dharma. In the second, one abandons immoral conduct, does not study for the sake of others' faith, does little for the benefit of sentient beings, and if one has compassion, there is no non-virtue. These four contradict prioritizing the benefit of others. One accepts wrong livelihood, boasts and is extremely arrogant, and thinks of entering samsara alone. These three contradict prioritizing one's own benefit. One does not abandon a bad reputation, and even if one has afflictions, one does not tame them. These two contradict ethics that are equal to both. Third, retaliating with insults after being insulted, etc., abandoning those who are angry, taming others' greed with whipping, and following with a mind of anger. Fourth, gathering retinues for the sake of gain and respect, not eliminating laziness, etc., and relying on joking words with desire. These three. Fifth, one does not seek the meaning of samadhi, does not eliminate the obscurations of meditation, and sees the taste of meditation as a virtue. These three. Sixth, one abandons the Hearer Vehicle, and even though one has one's own tradition, one is diligent in it, one is not diligent in one's own tradition but is diligent in external treatises, and even if one is diligent, one is happy about it. These four are faults related to inferior objects. One abandons the Great Vehicle, praises oneself and slanders others, does not go for the sake of the Dharma, and in meaning

Defaming and revealing letters. (Above) These four are the faults related to the sacred place. Second, the twelve that contradict benefiting sentient beings are: Not being a helpful friend when needed, abandoning the task of caring for the sick, not eliminating suffering, and not showing wisdom to the undisciplined. (Above) These four are related to the general aspect of doing things. Regarding the specific aspect of doing things, there are two: Not repaying benefits for what has been done, not eliminating the sorrows of others, not giving to those who desire wealth, not doing things for one's retinue, not harmonizing with the minds of others, and not speaking words of praise for virtues. (Above) These six are the faults of not repaying benefits. Not restraining those who are suitable as conditions, and not committing evil deeds such as performing miracles. (Above) These two are the faults of not restraining. These forty-six, in the *Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra*, are divided into three types: faults of affliction, faults of non-affliction, and no faults. In the commentary on this, it is also said: If faults arise due to disrespect, negligence, and laziness, then they become faults of affliction. If faults arise due to forgetfulness, then they become faults of non-affliction. For mental confusion, there is no fault. Here, only the number of transgressions is mentioned, and the detailed classification should be understood in the commentary on the *Twenty Verses on Discipline* composed by the venerable Drakpa Gyaltsen, the lama who has exhausted errors. Second, examining whether the vows are abandoned due to the occurrence of root downfalls: In the questions and answers of Chaklo, the manner of abandoning the vows is that even in individual liberation vows, downfalls occur, so there are two systems of abandoning and not abandoning the vows. Similarly, in the Great Vehicle, there are also two, and it is clear that the Mind-Only school holds that the vows are abandoned due to downfalls. The Madhyamaka school has both systems. We follow the system of not abandoning the root of the vows if we do not abandon the aspiration mind. In the *Bodhicaryāvatāra*, "If, having made such a vow, one does not act accordingly, having deceived all those sentient beings, what will my destiny become?" etc., is also said to mean only that one does not lose the aspiration mind, and if one loses it, it is said that one will be born in a lower realm for a short time, but ultimately will not fail to attain Buddhahood.
