It is not that there is no giving. The Vinaya Three Hundred Verses says: One who possesses discipline and knows the rituals of taming, who is compassionate to the sick, whose retinue is pure, who strives to benefit with Dharma and material things, and who admonishes in time, that one is praised as a lama. Also, according to the Paramita system, the Great Lord said that the lama should be regarded as a Buddha. These are only lamas, not supreme lamas. To become a supreme lama, the person who is the basis must be empowered to have the vows of secret mantra, and that person must pray with one-pointedness, and must be able to give Buddhahood in this life or in the bardo, etc. Second, the six beginning with "secret mantra," even if one has faith in a lama who has not been empowered and has not received the secret mantra vows, one may only obtain happiness in this life, or obtain a body of leisure and opportunity in the next life, and meet the teachings of the Buddha, etc., which may become the cause of gradual accomplishment, but that refers to this life, etc. Third, the two verses beginning with "Paramita," the Vinaya says: One should abide together, and the attendant should generate the perception of the abbot and the master as the Buddha. Also, the Manjushri Emanation Sutra says: Manjushri, therefore, the Bodhisattva should rely on the virtuous friend in the same way as he respects the Tathagata. Such things are said. The Guhyasamaja Tantra asks: How should one view the Vajra Acharya of empowerment? The answer is: It is the nature body of all Buddhas, the limbs are Bodhisattvas, the hairs are all Arhats, the crown of the head is the five Buddha families, the worldly ones are pressed down by the feet, the rays of light are the secrets of the Yakshas, the yogi should always look at them. Also, how should one view the Vajra Acharya who has received empowerment? The Bhagavan said: Seeing all the Buddhas of the three times in one pore of the lama, and seeing the offering of all the Buddhas of the three times to the lama. Such things, and the Explanatory Tantra Vajra Garland says: In this body of the Vajra Acharya, the bodies of the Buddhas abide in order.

The aggregate of the body is the Bhagavan Buddha Vairochana. From this to the skillful feet, it is said to be a deity assembly with three seats. In the Vajra Tent Tantra, it says: How should one view the Acharya who bestows empowerment in the mandala of glorious Hevajra? The Tathagata taught: The Acharya is the teacher, revered by all Buddhas, the father and mother of us all, and should be kept in mind. Because the wisdom Vajra is attained through joy. Therefore, approach the Acharya, and the Tathagatas also pay homage. Like Vajrasattva, the Acharya takes form in this way, and in order to guide sentient beings, abides in the form of an ordinary person. Furthermore, as it is said in the "Fifty Verses on the Guru": The Acharya who has obtained the supreme Vajra empowerment is the Tathagata, abiding in the ten directions of the world, and is respectfully prostrated to in the three times. In the root tantra of Chakrasamvara, it says: Thereafter, the practitioner should first please the Guru with all things. The practitioner who desires to practice should constantly abide in equanimity, and offer to the Guru to the best of their ability. Thus it is said. If one is not connected to the mantra vows through the gate of empowerment, even a good Guru who teaches other dharmas cannot bestow Buddhahood in this life or in the bardo, etc., in the gradually accomplished causes and conditions, as in the Paramita path. Seventh, regarding the two verses such as "for the non-ordained," etc., for one who does not cause ordination, there is no qualified Khenpo. For one who has not been empowered, there is no qualified Guru who views the Guru as the Buddha. Without vows, there is no constant virtue of renunciation. If there is no refuge, one is not included in this Dharma. Therefore, claiming to be a virtuous practitioner without vows, claiming to be a Bodhisattva without having attained Bodhicitta, and claiming to be a Mantrika without having received empowerment, these three are thieves of the Buddha's teachings of Vinaya, Paramita, and Vajrayana, and should be abandoned after knowing this. Third, the wisdom Mahamudra arising from empowerment and the two stages has two aspects: refuting the errors of the wisdom of the Mahamudra that realizes, and the view of the object to be realized, free from elaboration.
