It means that there needs to be an "I." For example, just as when a magician performs a magic trick, it is necessary for the illusion to arise from the magician. The third is "this proof" and so on, three points, namely, the Buddha showing the ripening of bad karma is provisional meaning, and the provisional meaning scriptures cannot be accepted literally, the proofs and reasons for these should be understood like the treatises of wise men such as Asanga's Commentary on Valid Cognition and Lekdenjé's Blaze of Reasoning. In the Commentary on Valid Cognition, the Sutra of Universal Appearance also says that if one takes it literally, there are five faults. What are the five? Namely, the fault of becoming a place of disbelief, the fault of the root decaying, the fault of deceiving others, the fault of slandering the teacher, and the fault of abandoning the Dharma. It says that this is expressed in one's own language. In the Blaze of Reasoning, summarizing the statements that appear in prose into verses is: If the deeds of the Sage (Shakyamuni Buddha) in this realm are not emanations, and if one accepts the scriptures etc. literally, then there will be contradictions: If he is the last prince, if he indulges in desires, he will violate the precepts, therefore generosity etc. will not exist. Also, the great elder Bakula said: After I took the Bhikshu vows, for eighty years I have not even thought of a headache, why is that? It is only because of the result of giving a single Arura fruit to a sick person. The Buddha is the perfection of generosity, if his body is afflicted by diseases born of bad karma, that is very contradictory. Both of these treatises say: Descending from Tushita heaven, proclaiming to the six realms, is contrary to arising under the control of afflictions, and obtaining mastery of samadhi. If one does not understand old age, sickness and death, seeks the path of liberation from the heretics, and tortures oneself with severe asceticism, how can it not be contradictory? In the Ornament of the Sutras it says: If one completely understands the meaning literally, one will become arrogant and one's wisdom will decline. Because one abandons the well-spoken, one will be destroyed, obscured by anger towards the Dharma. In the Tenth Dharma Chapter of the Jewel Heap Sutra it says: Good son, how can a Bodhisattva be skilled in understanding the intention of the Tathagata? Good son, the Bodhisattva to the Tathagata

Those profound sutras that are considered to require special understanding should not be adhered to merely in their literal sense. So, what are those that need to be understood with special consideration? For example, the Tathagata prophesied that the Shravakas would attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This should not be taken literally. Ananda, I said that I am old, this should also not be taken literally. I said that I am old and frail, find my attendant, this should also not be taken literally. Son of Maudgalyayana, go and get some medicine from the physician king Jivaka, we will eat it, this should also not be taken literally. The Tathagata engages in debate with other heretical wanderers, this should also not be taken literally. The Tathagata's foot was pierced by a thorn of the acacia tree, this should also not be taken literally. The wicked Devadatta has long been the Tathagata's killer, enemy, opponent, and foe, this should also not be taken literally. The Tathagata, for the sake of alms, in the Brahmin village of Salakana, just as one would pour out something from a washed bowl, poured it back out, this should also not be taken literally. The Brahmin girl, out of arrogance, tied a wooden bowl to her stomach and slandered the Tathagata, this should also not be taken literally. The Tathagata, having promised to reside in the land of Anotatta during the summer retreat, ate horse feed barley for three months, this should also not be taken literally. Thus it was said. Third, refuting the view that in practice, everything is either completely prohibited or completely allowed, which is divided into two parts: stating the view and refuting it. The first part is: Some Drikungpa people believe that in the precepts of the Mahayana and Hinayana, the prohibition of one action means the complete prohibition of all actions, and the permission of one action means the complete permission of all actions. They believe that in the "One Thought," everything that the Vajra speech universally prohibits should be completely prohibited, and everything that is permitted should be completely permitted. They say, "It's like Tibetan elders taking care of patients with everything except alcohol." And, regarding the prohibition of touching women, they say that if a woman is being carried away by water, touching her with the perception of a bamboo pole will purify you.
