Because of this. Or, if you consider the Tathagatagarbha to be substantial, then clearly determine these two views. The view that inanimate objects are the realm of sentient beings is the view of some heretics, such as the Lokayata, who believe that elements such as earth and the nature of pleasure are one and the same, and that there is consciousness; the naked ascetics believe that trees have consciousness, and so on. If it is considered that awareness does not go beyond the eight consciousnesses, it is in terms of including the retinue; or if it is considered that the Tathagatagarbha is consciousness, then it is unreasonable to consider it a mental factor, so it must be considered as any one of the eight consciousnesses. In the sutras, it is said that the Tathagatagarbha is unconditioned. As it is said in the Garland Sutra: "World Honored One, the Tathagatagarbha has no birth, death, change, or difference. World Honored One, the Tathagatagarbha transcends the realm of conditioned phenomena." Some sutras say that it is the stainless mindstream. As it is said in the sutras: "The Tathagatagarbha pervades all beings, completely relying on the immaculate mind." This refers to the luminosity of the Alaya consciousness, and the luminosity of the Alaya consciousness is obscured and unindicated, so it contradicts the idea that it is the merit of dedication. If there is a stainless consciousness other than the eight consciousnesses, then the aggregate of consciousnesses will become nine, and if this is also accepted, then it contradicts what is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "The five dharmas and the three self-natures, the eight consciousnesses and the two selflessnesses, all of the Great Vehicle are contained within them." The fourth is "non-substantial" and so on, two aspects. If it is non-substantial, then there is no good or evil, so it contradicts the idea that it is the merit of dedication. The fifth is "if sentient beings" and so on, six aspects. If the realm of sentient beings is free from the elaboration of substantial and non-substantial, then it will not go beyond the dharmadhatu that transcends existence and non-existence, which was previously quoted by Nagarjuna, and this has already been said not to be the merit of dedication. The third is to refute the idea that the dharmadhatu has the difference between the nature of the heart of dedication and non-nature. If it is "if inanimate objects" and so on, seven aspects, even if the dharmadhatu of inanimate objects is not the Tathagatagarbha that is transformed into the merit of dedication, the dharmadhatu of sentient beings is
