I (referring to the author or commentator). The conceptual proliferation of clinging to names is the uncommon object of negation here (referring to Prajñāpāramitā). As the Commentary on the Entrance says, "To negate suchness." Therefore, the clinging to names mentioned here is the same in meaning as the appearance of phenomena, which is said to be the object of negation on the path of accumulation in the first chapter; the conceptual imputation of clinging mentioned in the first and fifth chapters; the clinging to names as clinging to the basis, path, and result mentioned in the third chapter; the cognitive obscuration mentioned in the Ratnagotravibhāga, which says, "Whatever is the conceptualization of the three spheres, that is considered the cognitive obscuration"; and the wisdom that distinguishes the three spheres of generosity, etc., mentioned in the Entrance. This is the uncommon object of negation for the Mahāyāna. Even if the Hīnayāna cannot negate it, or has not negated it, it will not cause any obstacle to attaining one's own enlightenment. Fourth, it is the wisdom that realizes no-name, which is the antidote to the previously mentioned conceptual proliferation of clinging to names. Such no-name is realized through hearing and thinking, and exists on the Mahāyāna path of accumulation. Because it is said, "Extremely giving no-name, etc." Realizing it in a general way through meditation exists on the Mahāyāna path of preparation. Because it is said, "Negating the appearance of phenomena, etc." and "The preparation of stopping actions." Realizing it directly exists on the Mahāyāna path of seeing. Because it is said, "With inconceivable distinctions, etc." Continuously meditating on what has been directly realized exists on the Mahāyāna path of meditation. Because it is said, "The path of meditation is profound." Therefore, in this treatise, the Abhisamayālaṃkāra, such wisdom is called the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of phenomena, and it is said that the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not have this wisdom. Because the Mahāyāna paths of preparation, seeing, and meditation are said to be more excellent than the Hīnayāna paths of preparation, seeing, and meditation in terms of having such wisdom. Nāgārjuna and his son also hold this view. As the Ratnāvalī says, "The profound, deceptive, and frightening, is for some who strive for enlightenment." And the teacher Candrakīrti says, "The wisdom that does not perceive the three spheres of giving is not present in those who have not attained the Bodhisattva stage."
