If one can enter the formless samadhi without being detached from desire for the lower realm, it is like a noble being who has attained the fourth dhyana and does not seek to be born in the formless realm, abandoning the path of abandonment and abiding in the superior path, entering the formless liberation. The third case is being able to enter the formless samadhi without being detached from desire for form, it is like he himself seeking to be detached from desire for form, abiding in the path of abandonment and entering the formless samadhi. The fourth case, which is neither of the above two, is all those other than the above. It is said that manifesting the cessation samadhi in the form realm is with regard to the second case. On this, the ṭīkā says, if it is thought that one can attain the higher realm without being detached from desire for the lower realm, then there is the fault of falling into not being the ultimate samadhi. Some, considering this meaning, think that the fourth dhyana and the four formless dhyanas are not the ultimate samadhi, because there are cases where the essence of the lower realm is not manifested but the essence of the higher realm is manifested. This statement is not the intention, because the opponent has not accepted this reasoning, and it is not certain that it is universal, since there are cases where arhats who attain simultaneously have done so. Therefore, the intention of the ṭīkā is to criticize the attainment of the higher realm without being detached from desire for the lower realm. There is another fault: it may appear that there is a path of liberation without the preceding uninterrupted path, because there is a superior path without the preceding path of abandonment. It may appear that to take birth in the formless realm, one must be detached from desire for form, because the reason why a noble being who has attained the fourth dhyana does not seek to attain birth in the formless realm is that there is a reason for not generating desire for form. If you admit it, it contradicts what you have admitted, because a non-returner who is not attached to the fourth dhyana and does not fall from the essential samadhi of the sphere of infinite space and dies, should not be born in the formless realm, because that is the idea. The commentary on the Abhidharmakośa says that the physical basis for the cessation samadhi includes people from the three continents, the six desire realms, and the sixteen form realm abodes excluding the Great Brahma, totaling twenty-five. This statement is also unreasonable, because this is the view of the Vaibhāṣikas.

Now, this is the tenet of the Mahayana. According to the first view, it is impossible for a noble Bodhisattva to enter cessation; and if it is a Hinayana person who has attained cessation, then it is impossible to be reborn in the desire realm later, so it is unreasonable. According to the second view, it contradicts "except for the Great Brahma," because there are those who have already attained and manifested cessation even on the basis of the Great Brahma. A section is missing from above and below here, so it needs to be found and supplemented later. Third, the place of reliance is that at the time of the initial entry, both the Greater and Lesser Vehicles enter cessation by relying on the mind of the peak of existence. In the Hinayana system, the peak of existence is not clear in the flow of mind, so it is easier to cut off the gross feelings and perceptions by relying on it. As the Treasury says: "At the end of the subtle, subtle." In the commentary, it says: "The peak of existence is a very subtle consciousness, and after making it even more subtle than that, one enters into cessation." Therefore, the subtlety here is also subtle in relation to other grounds, but it is not the subtlety divided by the gross consciousness that is to be negated by cessation, because its subtlety is placed on the alaya consciousness and the corresponding consciousness. In the Mahayana, it is also determined in this way at the time of the initial entry, because the initial entry into cessation in the Mahayana is the seeing path, which is the stage of the lion's leap samadhi that has become the nature of the special path, and at that time it is certain to occur at the end of the peak of existence. Later, there are also cases of entering at the end of other concentrations and formless concentrations, as the Treasury Commentary says: "This is determined for the initial entry, but later, if one gains mastery of joy and movement, one can transcend it and enter into cessation again." Here, the meaning of entering cessation by relying on the peak of existence is also entering cessation at the end of the peak of existence, but it is not the meaning that the peak of existence is the mind's basis of cessation, because the meaning of the mind's basis is that the retinue of one consciousness arises simultaneously in correspondence, and without the mind of the peak of existence ceasing, cessation will not arise. When cessation arises, the mind of the peak of existence has already ceased. Some people think that entering cessation requires a mind of the peak of existence with special calm abiding,
