It is said that it was named in some way, and here, if you understand the key points of explaining the near-attainment and application separately in the case of the formless realm, then I will remember it at that time. Do not say anything that would shame those who do not know. Therefore, the characteristic of the samadhi of the formless realm of infinite space is that during the application, the perception of form is eliminated, and one becomes accustomed to the perception of space, and during the actual practice, it is that which manifests, abiding in the category of the virtuous one-pointed mind together with its concomitants. The second samadhi of the formless realm, the meaning spoken of in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, is explained in the Sravakabhumi in the following way: "In all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space," which means having transcended the actual practice and near-attainment of the sphere of infinite space. "Thinking that consciousness is infinite," this shows the aspect of the object of focus during the stage of application. The rest is the same as before. Therefore, the characteristic of the samadhi of the sphere of infinite consciousness is that during the application, the perception of space is eliminated, and one becomes accustomed to the perception of consciousness, and during the actual practice, it is that which manifests, abiding in the category of the virtuous one-pointed mind together with its concomitants. The third samadhi of the formless realm, the meaning spoken of in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, is explained in the Sravakabhumi in the following way: "In all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite consciousness," which means having completely transcended the actual practice and near-attainment of the sphere of infinite consciousness. "Thinking that there is nothing at all," this means that apart from consciousness, no object of focus, whether form or formless, is found, which shows the aspect of the object of focus during the application. The rest is the same as before. Therefore, the characteristic of the samadhi of the sphere of nothingness is that during the application, one becomes accustomed to the fact that apart from consciousness, there is nothing to be grasped, and during the actual practice, it is that which manifests, abiding in the category of the virtuous one-pointed mind together with its concomitants. The fourth samadhi of the formless realm, the meaning spoken of in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, is explained in the Sravakabhumi in the following way: "In all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of nothingness,

The so-called "transcendence" refers to: completely transcending from the actual existence of the sphere of nothingness and its associated close attainment. The so-called "non-thought" refers to: previously, in the state of nothingness, there was no thought of "nothingness"; but here it refers to regarding even the thought of "nothingness" as a fault, thereby completely transcending it. The so-called "neither thought nor non-thought" refers to: like the two samadhis, it is not that there is no thought at all, but that there is a subtle thought that enters with no characteristics as its object. The so-called "abiding in the proximity of the sphere of existence" refers to: during the practice, contemplating in this way, it will manifest at the time of actual existence. Therefore, the characteristics of the samadhi of the sphere of neither thought nor non-thought are: the coarse thoughts held by the entering consciousness do not exist, but there is a virtuous one-pointedness of mind and its associated factors with subtle thoughts. Second, distinguishing from the perspective of essence: the formless samadhis have three types: defiled, pure, and uncontaminated, which is similar to what was said earlier during the meditation. The difference is that there is no uncontaminated at the peak of existence, because the flow of mind is not clear, so it cannot be relied upon by the wisdom mind that directly realizes selflessness. Both the upper and lower Abhidharma say this, based on the perspective of the Sarvastivada school, or based on the Hinayana perspective, but for the Mahayana, this is not certain, because when explaining the nine successive abidings, the peak of existence must also be uncontaminated. The samadhi of the peak of existence, the pure one, has similarities with the other three, but there is no similar practice, because it has no higher ground. Why are the meditations transcended from the aspect of limbs, and the formless realm transcended from the aspect of object? Because each of the meditations has a special feature of being separated from the coarse limbs of the lower level, so they are transcended from the aspect of limbs. The formless realms, on the other hand, begin with the elimination of the form thought, followed by the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness after eliminating the thought of infinite space, the sphere of nothingness after eliminating the thought of infinite consciousness, and entering the samadhi of the sphere of neither thought nor non-thought after eliminating the thought of apprehending nothingness.
