It is said to be called "ciing". The so-called "not paying attention to various kinds of perceptions" means: because of being separated from those, for those various kinds of things that have special obstacles, such as: food, drink, riding, clothes, decorations, dwellings, amusement parks, forests, armies, mountains, etc., whatever perceptions are related to them, even if those perceptions are entrusted to them, they will never arise from them. Therefore, it is said to be called "not paying attention to various kinds of perceptions". The so-called "thinking that the sky is infinite" means: after he has destroyed form, obstacles, and various perceptions in that way, he believes in the form of the infinite sky, therefore, it is said to be called "thinking that the sky is infinite". The so-called "cultivating and dwelling in the sphere of infinite space" means: completely transcending from the near-attainment concentration, and causing the reality of the ultimate fruit of union to abide in samadhi, therefore, it is said to be called "cultivating and dwelling in the sphere of infinite space". As long as one does not abide in reality, one only focuses on the sky. After entering samadhi, one also focuses on the sky itself and one's own earth realm aggregates that abide on it. In the near-attainment concentration, one also focuses on the lower earth realm aggregates. The meaning of the second sutra is stated in the "Hearer's Ground": Regarding this, he completely transcends the sphere of infinite space in various ways, the so-called "consciousness is infinite" means, with what consciousness does one believe in the infinity of space, because one wants to abide in the sphere of infinite consciousness with the consciousness itself that believes in the infinity of space, therefore, one returns from the perception of the sphere of infinite space, cultivates the sphere of infinite consciousness, and believes in the consciousness itself in the form of infinity, when one completely transcends the reality of the sphere of infinite space and its near-attainment concentration, therefore it is said, "He completely transcends the sphere of infinite space in various ways, thinking that consciousness is infinite."

Thinking, "It is the sphere of boundless consciousness," and abiding, means having completely transcended the proximity attainment of the sphere of boundless consciousness. By attending to it up to the ultimate application, one is able to enter into the actual basis of the fruit of the ultimate application. Therefore, it is said that one cultivates the sphere of boundless consciousness and abides. The meaning of the third sutra is explained in the Śrāvakabhūmi: "Having moved on from the sphere of boundless consciousness, he seeks for any object other than consciousness, whether it is form or formless, but does not find it. When he does not find that object, he completely transcends the actual basis of the sphere of boundless consciousness, together with its proximity attainment, and thinks, 'There is no object whatsoever,' and only believes in the notion of nothingness. By repeatedly practicing that belief in the notion, he completely transcends the proximity attainment of the sphere of nothingness, and by attending to it up to the ultimate application, he is able to enter into the actual basis of the fruit of the ultimate application. Therefore, it is said that in every way, having completely transcended the sphere of boundless consciousness, thinking, 'There is nothing whatsoever,' he cultivates the sphere of nothingness and abides therein." The meaning of the fourth sutra is explained in the Śrāvakabhūmi: "Here, 'having completely transcended the sphere of nothingness in every way' means that he has moved on from the sphere of nothingness, and perceives the notion of the sphere of nothingness as coarse and as a fault, and therefore turns away from the notion of the sphere of nothingness. Therefore, it is said, 'He has completely transcended the sphere of nothingness in every way.'" "Without perception" means that when he previously entered the sphere of nothingness, he had completely transcended the notion of "being," but now he has completely transcended the notion of nothingness, therefore it is said "without perception," which refers to the absence of the notion of nothingness. "Neither with nor without perception" means that his perception is such that, for example, like the attainment of non-perception or cessation, it is completely ceased in every way.
