It is said, "When earth combines, birth occurs." In short, the state of an Arhat with residue remains because it relies on the force of the ripening karma of life. The intermediate state, until an Arhat is realized or until rebirth is obtained, exists solely due to simultaneous karmic influence, not due to the force of ripening karma. Therefore, the key to why one with an intermediate state cannot be an Arhat lies here. Here, it is said that after birth, at the time of death, one does not have the freedom to abandon or take on life. Regarding the analogy of the three deaths of the intermediate state, the commentaries use the power of words with analogies such as a spark of fire on grass disappearing into the sky. If one understands the cause and effect of the twelve links of dependent origination, a deep conviction in this system will arise. May the great scholar Vasubandhu be pleased. Others say, etc., to explain the difference between the latter two nirvanas, refuting other views. If the path that focuses on conditioned phenomena and the path that focuses on unconditioned phenomena are the differences between these two nirvanas, then all nirvanas would become the second type of nirvana, which is too extreme, because all are nirvanas through the path that focuses on the four truths. The Sutra says, etc., to explain the teacher's own view. In the verses, the appearance of what is accompanied by manifestation first is because the verses are easy to compose, but the order of meaning is the difference between the speed of realizing nirvana, so nirvana without manifestation appears first. This itself accords with the meaning. The Sutra says that nirvana without manifestation appears first, and the Compendium also says the same. The meaning of the differences or the differences in karma and afflictions lies in this. The above-mentioned upward transference, etc., is to explain the meaning of the term upward transference, because one is born above, does not attain nirvana there, but goes above that, so it is established as upward transference. The saying, "If one cultivates meditation, one goes to Akanistha," etc., divides upward transference into two types, and further divides the ultimate upward transference to Akanistha into three types, and explains their characteristics.

This is easy to understand. Here, the meaning of cultivating meditations and experiencing the taste of the first dhyana, and completely falling away from the three dhyanas, is that cultivating meditations is cultivating one contaminated meditation between two uncontaminated meditations, and experiencing the taste is experiencing the taste of contaminated meditation. Because it is said in the scriptures, "The pure one is experienced by that." Experiencing the taste of the pure one will cause one to fall away from the pure one and become a defiled samadhi, and at that time one will also fall away from uncontaminated meditation. The meaning of uncontaminated meditation is that first one generates the meditation of the pure one, and then below it one generates the wisdom that directly realizes selflessness. When it arises, the previous meditation will transform into the essence of the meditation that directly realizes selflessness. If it is established in this way, then will there be a case of falling away from the uncontaminated path truth? Generally speaking, there is no falling away from the uncontaminated path truth, because there is no falling away from the wisdom that directly realizes selflessness. There is a falling away from the uncontaminated path truth covered by the substance of meditation, because when falling away from the meditation of the pure one, one falls away from all the contaminated and uncontaminated substances of meditation. Otherwise, after falling away from all the substances of meditation, one must also admit the common basis of having a continuum of defiled samadhi and also having a continuum of uncontaminated meditation. The Sarvastivada school believes that there is a case of falling away from the abandonment abandoned by the uncontaminated uninterrupted path. The Sautrantika school believes that there is no such case, but it is also said that an Arhat will fall away from dwelling in bliss in the present life, and falling away from dwelling in bliss in the present life refers to the meditation of the pure one. The commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the "Prince," says, "The so-called complete falling away from dwelling in bliss in the visible dharma is a synonym for falling away from worldly meditators." Because it is said in this way. Then, will it be thought that there is no wisdom that directly realizes selflessness in his continuum? If it is thought that when falling away from the substance of the first dhyana, there is no fault because it relies on the preparatory concentration of the first dhyana. The second question is: Others refers to the four formless realms of the goers who do not return, others refers to those who approach the formless realm, that is, those who are free from desire for the form realm.
