Accompanied by faith that cultivates joy in the virtues of others. If differentiated in terms of levels, it is as before. Definition of the undefiled path of meditation of the Great Vehicle: What is the path of meditation of the Great Vehicle? It is the wisdom that has already seen the nature of reality and constantly habituates it, through being free from the non-veridical conceptualization that apprehends the apprehended and the apprehender as distinct. If differentiated, there are two: the accomplishing path of meditation and the purifying path of meditation. Of the first, there are four: essence, distinction, aspect, and function. The essence is to meditate on having already seen the state of phenomena such as forms. The distinction is that it is superior to other virtuous actions such as generosity. The aspect is that there is no clinging to any object. Definition: What is the undefiled path of meditation of the Great Vehicle? It is that which has become the antidote to the abandonment of the obscurations to knowledge that belong to one's own share. If differentiated in terms of levels, there are nine from the undefiled path of meditation of the second ground to the undefiled path of meditation of the tenth ground. Each of these must be divided into the path of joining and the uninterrupted path. In terms of characteristics, there are two functions: the temporary function is to generate in the continuum of the yogi the realization that all phenomena are without inherent existence. The ultimate function is to accomplish the great purpose—the state of Buddhahood. The second is the purifying path of meditation, which is divided into the distinction between causes and non-causes, and the actual result, the purifying path of meditation. First, the definition of the cause of the purifying path of meditation: the conducive conditions for generating the purifying path of meditation. If differentiated, there are three: pleasing, perfecting generosity and so forth, and being skilled in the means of calm abiding. Second, the definition of the non-cause abandoned by the purifying path of meditation: the obstructing conditions that hinder the arising of the purifying path of meditation. If differentiated, there are four: being harmed by demons, associating with unwholesome friends, not having faith in the profound Dharma, and clinging to appearances as real. Second, regarding the actual result, the purifying aspect: Definition of the purifying path of meditation: What is the undefiled path of meditation of the Great Vehicle? It is the purity of being liberated from the obscurations to knowledge that belong to the share of the uninterrupted path of one's own cause. Regarding this, if differentiated in terms of levels, there are nine from the path of liberation of the second ground to the path of liberation of the tenth ground. This must be ascertained.

In general, the manifestation of the four purities, and the extreme accomplishment of the Buddha's purity, and the avoidance of criticism of the accomplisher, these three. First, the definition of the purity of the Hearer: the stainless liberation of the Hearer's continuum that is liberated from the afflictive obscurations of the part of the uninterrupted path that is the self-cause. Distinguishing from the perspective of essence, there are two types: conditioned liberation path and unconditioned individual cessation. Distinguishing from the perspective of stages, there are four: Stream-enterer, Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat. Distinguishing from the perspective of what is to be abandoned, there are two types: purity of abandoning afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing, and purity of abandoning afflictions to be abandoned by the path of meditation. The latter is further divided into eighty-one. The definition of the purity of the Solitary Realizer: the stainless liberation of the continuum of the middling individual who is liberated from the grasping and fixation of afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations of the part of the uninterrupted path that is the self-cause. The distinctions are the same as before. The ṭīkā (Sanskrit, Devanagari, ṭīkā, Sanskrit Romanization, commentary) says: "In the sutra, the explanation of the Stream-enterer is only applied to the Hearer, because the Stream-enterer, etc., of the Solitary Realizer are not mentioned, so it is not adopted." What is said means that there are no Stream-enterer, Once-returner, and Non-returner who have become Solitary Realizers, because the Stream-enterer, Once-returner, and Non-returner who are on the path of the Solitary Realizer are Hearers. In the three ways of cultivating the path of the Solitary Realizer from one's own ground, it is said that here, some people, after pleasing the Buddha for a hundred eons, obtain the fruit of Stream-enterer or Once-returner in this life, but are unable to obtain the fruit of Arhat in this life, so in order to obtain the fruit of Non-returner and Arhat in the next life, they become proficient in the six aggregates, etc. Moreover, the ṭīkā (Sanskrit, Devanagari, ṭīkā, Sanskrit Romanization, commentary) also elaborates on it as it is. Therefore, if one is a Stream-enterer, one must be a Hearer, but if one is the fruit of Stream-enterer, it is not necessarily the purity of a Hearer. Therefore, it is reasonable to accept this view that all learners of the Solitary Realizer lineage are Hearers. The definition of the purity of the Bodhisattva: the purity of the continuum of the Bodhisattva who is liberated from the types of abandonments of the three vehicles by the part of the uninterrupted path that is the self-cause.
