This is because it (the mind) arises from its own cause, which is conceptual thought, and without conceptual thought, it does not arise. The third is a challenge: If it is admitted that the mind arises from its own cause, which is conceptual thought, then the mind should not arise from its own cause, which is conceptual thought, because the Blessed One said that all actions and minds are empty. The sutra says: Venerable Subhuti, all actions and minds are empty. If the Blessed One said this, then how can actions and minds arise with an object? It is impossible without an object. In the "Commentary on the Twenty Thousand Verses of Light," it says: All minds are empty, therefore, the object of its object is also non-existent. This is an argument. The answer is, the sutra says: Venerable Shariputra, if one clings to characteristics, actions and minds can arise with an object, and it is impossible without an object. In the "Commentary on the Twenty Thousand Verses of Light," it says: All minds are empty, therefore, the object of its object is also non-existent. The answer to this is: Venerable Shariputra, if one clings to characteristics... That's what it says. Its meaning is that the Blessed One said that all actions and minds are empty, and (you) said that all actions and minds arise from their own cause, which is conceptual thought, these two are not contradictory, because the former is from the perspective of ultimate truth, and the latter is from the perspective of conventional truth. The fourth is a challenge: If it is admitted that actions and minds arise from their own cause, which is conceptual thought, then, if a Bodhisattva practices the six perfections such as generosity in a dream, and dedicates the merit to unsurpassed Bodhi, then will this become a dedication to Bodhi or not? If it becomes a dedication to Bodhi, then it contradicts the admission that actions and minds are fabricated things. If it does not become a dedication to Bodhi, then it contradicts the admission that the mind arises from an object. The sutra says: Venerable Subhuti, if a great Bodhisattva practices generosity to wisdom in a dream, and dedicates this root of virtue to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, then will this become a dedication to Bodhi? In the "Commentary on the Twenty Thousand Verses of Light," it says: If one admits that the object is a completely imputed object, then the root of virtue of generosity etc. in the dream

If one dedicates to pure and complete enlightenment, is the dedication correct or incorrect? Asking this is debating. Thus it is said. The answer is, in the sutra it says: Venerable Shariputra, the great Bodhisattva Maitreya, if the root of virtue of the one lifetime away from Buddhahood has manifested, ask him, and he will answer. Then, Shariputra said to the great Bodhisattva Maitreya: Venerable Maitreya, the venerable Ravyu says this, the great Bodhisattva Maitreya will answer this question, ask him. Venerable Ajita, how should one answer? Then, the great Bodhisattva Maitreya said to the venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, will the name Bodhisattva Maitreya answer? Or will the form to consciousness aggregates answer? Or will color answer? Or will shape answer? Or will the emptiness of form to consciousness aggregates answer? From there on, those have no power to answer. I do not truly see who answers, with what answers, and the Dharma to whom one answers. Thus and so on, Shariputra said to the venerable Maitreya: Venerable Maitreya, have you directly realized those Dharmas as they are spoken? Maitreya said: Venerable Shariputra, I have not directly realized those Dharmas as they are spoken. Venerable Shariputra, those Dharmas that are spoken with words and thought with the mind, I do not know, do not see, and do not truly see. And, in the Abhisamayalankara it says: The answer to this is, the noble Maitreya has directly realized the direct perception of the three omniscient wisdoms, therefore, this one lifetime away from Buddhahood has the power to answer this question. Thus it is said. What is the meaning? In terms of the question itself, the future Buddhas will appear in succession, therefore, it shows that the answer to this question is not yet complete, if it were complete, the future Buddhas...
