It performs the action of increasing. Those three bodies of enlightenment, from the ultimate point of view, are the suchness that is free from the elaboration of grasping and being grasped, but from the conventional point of view, they appear as the elaboration of grasping and being grasped, for the sake of taming sentient beings. Therefore, although the Mahayana path of meditation performs the actions of abandoning, befriending, weakening, and increasing, it is not truly established. This is the way to be liberated from superimposition. Second, refuting the dispute of slander, divided into the object of the dispute, the dispute of slander against it, and the way to eliminate the dispute and be liberated from slander, in three parts. The first is the phrase "This accomplishes the desired meaning." The second is the phrase "The mind, neither the former nor the latter, is enlightened." That is, the Mahayana path of meditation, you cannot generate unsurpassed enlightenment, because neither your previous moment nor your subsequent moment can generate it. This is the dispute of slander. The direct statement of the treatise is this dispute, and the commentary limits the direct statement of the dispute to the fact that each previous and subsequent moment alone cannot generate enlightenment, thus explaining that many simultaneous occurrences cannot generate it, and successive occurrences cannot generate it, dividing it into three extremes for observation. The third is "By the example of the lamp," and so on, two lines. By the example of the lamp, from the understanding of the eight profound natures that will be explained below as not contradicting each other, by the first understanding of the profound birth as not contradicting each other, one can understand the answer to this dispute. How to understand it? The Mahayana path of meditation, each previous and subsequent moment alone cannot generate unsurpassed enlightenment, and without them, unsurpassed enlightenment cannot be generated, but previous and subsequent moments rely on each other to generate unsurpassed enlightenment, just as any one of the previous and subsequent moments of a lamp cannot completely burn the oil lamp wick, and without them, it cannot be completely burned, but previous and subsequent moments rely on each other to completely burn the oil lamp wick. This is the meaning of liberation from slander. Third, free from superimposition and slander

The divisions of reasoning are: arising and ceasing, etc., which is one verse. In short, if it is said that the reasoning of a non-returning practitioner on the path of meditation is profound, and that profound reasoning is free from exaggeration and denigration, then how many categories are there of profound reasoning, and how is it free from exaggeration and denigration? There are eight types of profound reasoning, such as profound arising. To illustrate profound arising, the Mahayana path of meditation generates unsurpassed enlightenment with just one moment, either before or after. If unsurpassed enlightenment is generated without these, it is exaggeration, and generally not generating unsurpassed enlightenment is denigration. Liberation from these two is liberation from exaggeration and denigration of arising, hence it is the meaning of profound. The other seven should be applied similarly. Then, which scriptures explain the three aspects of sign, dharma, and meaning? "The path of meditation is profound," etc., and "arising and ceasing," etc., explain the reasoning. "The signs of non-returning are for the wise who abide on the path of meditation." This shows the subject to be known, the dharma to be proven, and the summary of the meaning. The reason why the scriptures are not directly mentioned here is to avoid adding or subtracting verses, not because of a lack of understanding, but because it can be understood from the implication of the scriptures of the paths of joining and seeing. For example, in the case of the aspects of the basis of knowledge and omniscience, the first and last two aspects are directly explained, but not in the case of the aspects of the path of knowledge. Are the forty-four reasonings mentioned here only for the bodhisattvas who abide on the three paths of joining, seeing, and meditation, or are they established according to the order of faculties? Is the nature of the reasoning itself one of the three signs of result, nature, or non-observation? Does it become reasoning for the individual himself, or for other beings to be trained? For a discerning debater, these three doubts will arise. In response to the first question, some say that although bodhisattvas who abide on the three paths of joining, seeing, and meditation are pervaded by non-returning, they are not pervaded by obtaining the signs of non-returning. Therefore, these reasonings are for those with sharp faculties on the path of joining, and those with medium faculties or higher on the path of seeing, and those with dull faculties on the path of meditation.
