From then on, the favorable conditions for liberation up to the arising of heat on the path of joining are the favorable conditions for liberation gathered by meditation. This is called the special favorable conditions for liberation. The favorable conditions for liberation taught here, once arisen in the mindstream, do not rely on hearing and thinking until heat is attained. By meditating on the lineage of faith and so on, which are skilled in the five objects, when a clear appearance is obtained in the object of meditation, the five, faith and so on, become powers, and at that time, it is established that heat is attained. The five, faith and so on, before heat is attained, although they are powers that only subdue, are not powers that are part of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, because the power that subdues the direct realization of truth has not been attained. Considering this, it is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization, "Faith and so on should not be called powers, because there is no meaning of power." And in the Commentary, it is also said, "Not the nature of power," and so on. So, if the bodhisattva abiding in the favorable conditions for liberation taught here, is it universally pervasive that they do not regress from unsurpassed perfect enlightenment? If so, is it pervasive that they are skilled in the five objects, such as the Buddha? There is no fault, because the bodhisattvas abiding in the favorable conditions for liberation taught here, those with sharp faculties mostly easily realize perfect enlightenment, so they do not regress, while those with dull faculties mostly find it difficult to realize, as the verse says, "Perfect enlightenment, the sharp easily realize, the dull are held to realize with difficulty." The need for teaching in this way is that, because all bodhisattvas who have attained the path of joining of the Great Vehicle, whether sharp or dull faculties, are universally pervasive in not regressing from unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, this will be shown below, so there are two types of bodhisattvas on the path of accumulation, those who regress and those who do not. This is for the sake of knowing this. Therefore, the intention of the teacher is that, in general, the faith and so on of those on the path of accumulation have three types, great, medium, and small, because there are three paths of accumulation of the three vehicles. Here, the great is directly taught, and the other two are indirectly taught, just as the three, path of joining, seeing, and meditation, of the Great Vehicle are directly taught, and the three, path of joining, seeing, and meditation, of the Lesser Vehicle are indirectly taught.

Moreover, in order to truly show the Mahayana preparatory stage of liberation, thereby indirectly showing the Hinayana preparatory stage of liberation. Here, the great faith, etc., that are spoken of are divided into sharp and dull, thereby distinguishing the ease and difficulty of realizing complete enlightenment, which is the ultimate and unsurpassed intention. Ngorchenpo considers that those whose lineage is certain in the Mahayana are sharp, those who are uncertain are middling, and those of the Hinayana lineage are dull. Therefore, at the root, he directly shows the two, sharp and dull, and considers that the middling are indirectly abandoned, which is also unreasonable. This is because the sharp ones here do not completely include those whose lineage is certain in the Mahayana, and the dull ones are not necessarily of the Hinayana lineage. Ar considers that there are three types of Bodhisattvas: those of the Mahayana, Pratyekabuddha, and Shravaka lineages. Although all three are now equally abiding in the Mahayana preparatory stage of liberation, the former easily realizes enlightenment, while the latter two are spoken of with the term "dull," directly showing the difficulty of realization. By this implication, the latter two regress from the Mahayana path, and the middling Pratyekabuddha lineage obtains the Pratyekabuddha's enlightenment, and the Shravaka lineage obtains the Shravaka's enlightenment and are abandoned. This explanation is also unreasonable. This is because, by implication, the "middling" and "small" of the middling ones are not now abiding in the Mahayana preparatory stage of liberation. In the "Two Appearances," "Complete enlightenment, the sharp one, easily realizes" only shows the great Mahayana preparatory stage of liberation. "The dull one finds realization difficult" shows the small, middling, and great three of the Mahayana preparatory stage of liberation. It should be known that all of these have the nature of hearing and thinking, because this is the cause for initially entering what is shown. As it is said, the previous treatise seems to show the preparatory stage of liberation spoken of at this time, and "the dull one finds realization difficult" shows the ordinary accumulation path, because the ordinary accumulation path is solely included by hearing and thinking, and it itself also has the small, middling, and great three. Now, the second, the stages of meditation in the state of experience arising, which is mainly born from meditation, is from the preparatory stage of ascertainment to the skillful means of combining.
