Because it does not appear as a single realization. If you say so, there is no fault, because that wisdom does have the realization of the two dharmas of arising and ceasing in the manner of appearing and disappearing. And from the point of view of not appearing the difference between the previous and later moments, it is only established as one direct perception. This tenet is the establishment of the path of seeing of all three vehicles, so if you ask how the path of seeing of the Hearers realizes the meaning of no arising and ceasing? The path of seeing of the Hearers also directly realizes the selflessness of the person, therefore the five aggregates of appropriation, which are the basis of imputation, must be directly realized as unborn, so it is believed that there is seeing of the meaning of dependent arising as no arising and ceasing. If so, then the sixteen aspects such as impermanence will not be realized? If you ask, from the point of view of generating certainty about the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, it is established as realization, but it does not appear in the face of that wisdom, just like the path of seeing of the Great Vehicle. This is also what the Lord Maitreya believes, because the path of seeing of the Great Vehicle, from the arising of meditative equipoise to the exhaustion of the continuum, directly sees the dharmadhatu as being free from all elaborations, so the appearance of elaborations of the previous and later moments is contradictory. Second, that path of seeing meditative equipoise is not the moment of the final moment, but the moment of complete action, so in the duration of its arising, like the subsequent ascertainment of the Svātantrika, or when a superior person sees with clairvoyance knowing the minds of others, there are many differences between the previous and later moments. Those are also dependent on the number of subsequent ascertainments generated, and are established as sixteen moments. Considering this, in most of the sutras and treatises, it is said to be sixteen moments. And in both the sutras and treatises of this tenet, in the context of the combination of the path wisdom, the basis wisdom, and the complete combination, it is said to be sixteen moments. The views of the two, Ārya Siṃha and Siṃhabhadra, are also this, because in both the Nirnayasamgraha and the Great Commentary, the mention of a thousand Buddhas in the context of the path of seeing of the basis wisdom is said to be evidence that the path of seeing does not exceed the number of sixteen moments, and in the second context, in the Great Commentary, as previously explained, it is said to be sixteen moments depending on the respective direct perceptions.

If it is thought that these sixteen moments are divided in terms of eliminating (obstacles), and not referring to the difference between the order of moments, then, generally speaking, it is enough to say sixteen, and there is no need to specifically say "sixteen moments," just as there is no difference in terms like "four moments" for the four collections of antidotes to be abandoned on the path of seeing (warmth, peak, forbearance, and the highest mundane dharma) and the four peak practices of the path of seeing. The reason for establishing these sixteen samadhi moments as sixteen aspects such as the forbearance of the dharma-wisdom of suffering will be explained below. Third, all the upper and lower paths of seeing discussed in this treatise are only the Mahayana path of seeing. Therefore, all sixteen moments have no difference in terms of realizing the dharmadhatu, because the dharmadhatu is indivisible, and for the indivisible dharmadhatu, there is no division of seeing and not seeing. After such samadhi arises, until the continuum is perfected, it is free from all elaborations of the dharmadhatu, and the two wisdoms that can realize it, the dualistic appearances (object and subject), have vanished, and there is no difference in the object and aspect. Therefore, with the forbearance of the dharma-wisdom of suffering itself, one can directly see the peaceful dharmadhatu of truth, rather than seeing the dharmadhatu of the four truths in sequence. This difference does not exist in this system. If someone asks: The later moments will not be the path of seeing, because there is no cause to make what was previously unseen visible. In response, the टीका (commentary) says: Because there are many superimpositions on the four truths, in the stage of samadhi, the ability to eliminate these superimpositions is gradually obtained, and establishing the attainment of ability as realization, therefore, it is reasonable to establish the path of seeing as it is possible to transform what is not realized into realization. I think that the continuum of samadhi that first sees the nature of reality belongs to the category of the path of seeing, so it is established as the path of seeing. For example, the small and medium mundane highest dharmas, although not the most supreme of all mundane dharmas, are established as the mundane highest dharma because they belong to its category. Fourth, if asked: Then, what is the difference between the earlier and later moments? Because each moment separately obtains the ability to elicit subsequent definite understanding, there will be names such as the first moment and the second moment.
