Because the two cannot exist simultaneously. Then, if both aspiration and engaging bodhicitta arise in the continuum, and then a root downfall occurs, will it become impossible to abandon these two? Because the arising of these two is simultaneous with the attainment of the Mahayana accumulation path, and it is impossible to not enter the path after attaining the Mahayana accumulation path. If you ask this, even in the stage of the accumulation path, one can still fall into the lower realms due to the power of the root downfall, and fall from the precepts. If the desire to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of sentient beings is not abandoned, there is no fault of not entering the path because the root of the vows is not abandoned. If the aspiration and engaging bodhicitta have characteristics, they must be upheld by the vows. In the Bodhicaryavatara, it says: From the mind of aspiring for enlightenment, in the cycle of existence, great fruits arise, but like the mind of entering (enlightenment), merit does not arise continuously. If you say that this contradicts the above, there is no fault. Because the aspiration mind refers to the mere aspiration mind that is not upheld by the vows. Like the mind of entering (enlightenment), it refers to that itself being upheld by the vows and entering the path. Because at the end of that itself it says: From when, in order to extremely liberate the infinite realm of sentient beings, with an irreversible mind, that mind is completely taken, from that time on, even if one is asleep or heedless, the power of merit, countless and continuous, arises as vast as the sky. Because it is said like that. If the aspiration and engaging bodhicitta have characteristics, and there is no difference between placing them from the Mahayana accumulation path to the end of the continuum, then in the Bodhicaryavatara it says: Just as one knows the difference between wanting to go and going, similarly, the wise should know the difference between these two in order. If you say that this contradicts the above, there is no fault. Because that treatise shows that after entering the Mahayana path, until Buddhahood is not attained, there are two situations: the intention to go to enlightenment and being upheld by the action of going. Therefore, it shows these two situations of aspiration and engaging bodhicitta, so this system is correct. Other than that, it is very unreasonable to not have the intention to go when being upheld by the action of going. Because this is using the worldly wanting to go and going as an example, so in the world, even if one is upheld by the action of going,
