So, is it practicing what has not yet been attained, or is it practicing what has already been attained? To this, some people think that practice is for the purpose of attaining what has not yet been attained, which is unreasonable. The sutra says: Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva abiding in the first bhumi should practice these ten perfections. And, the Sutra of Ten Bhumis says: Sons of the Buddhas, a Bodhisattva abiding in the first bhumi should keep in mind the ten dharmas. Therefore. If it is said that "the bhumi is first attained," then does this contradict the above? No, that means to fully attain the first bhumi. Because in the post-attainment of the first bhumi, the ten perfections are practiced, and before the ten perfections are fully attained, it is still the first bhumi, and after complete perfection, it is transferred to the second bhumi. Therefore, the commentary says: Before the complete practice is perfected, it is still that bhumi, and after the complete practice is perfected, it is another bhumi, and its meaning has also been well explained. The eleventh is, the Sutra of Ten Bhumis says: Sons of the Buddhas, what are the fears of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva when he has just attained the Joyful Bhumi? As follows: the fear of having no livelihood, the fear of having no rhythm, the fear of death, the fear of evil destinies, the fear of feeling ashamed in the retinue, these fears will not exist. In addition, the ten bhumis sequentially perfect the ten paramitas. And, the first bhumi has twelve hundred qualities. The Sutra of Ten Bhumis says: If you want to initiate diligence, in this way abandon family, wife, and all enjoyments and go forth. After going forth, in a moment, an instant, a short while, attain and enter into a hundred samadhis, see a hundred Buddhas, and truly know their blessings, be able to shake a hundred worlds, go to a hundred Buddha lands, illuminate a hundred worlds with light and show them to others, use a hundred emanations to fully ripen a hundred sentient beings, be able to abide for a hundred kalpas, be able to see wisdom in a hundred kalpas at the beginning and end, be able to thoroughly distinguish a hundred dharma doors, be able to emanate a hundred bodies, and each body has a hundred Bodhisattva retinues.
