Therefore, it is called the naturally abiding lineage, because it is obtained from beginningless time by the nature of reality. The certainty of establishing it as the Buddha lineage is as before. Third, the divisions are twofold: lineage that is definite and lineage that is indefinite. The former is definite as the cause of the three vehicles' bodhi from beginningless time, so it will not be transformed into another bodhi by the power of conditions. For example, from some parts of a mountain, only gold is produced, only silver is produced, and only copper is produced. The latter can be transformed into the cause of all three vehicles by the power of conditions. For example, from some parts of a mountain, sometimes copper is produced, sometimes silver is produced, and sometimes gold is produced. Lineage that is severed is when the cause is mostly obscured and does not possess that uncontaminated seed. Here, for those with definite lineage, they do not consider the lineage of the lower two to be the Buddha lineage. For those with indefinite lineage, when they have not entered the path, they only consider it to be the uncontaminated lineage, and do not consider it to be the Hearer lineage, etc. When they have entered the path, they consider it to be the lineage from which they entered. In short, those who believe that the ultimate is the three vehicles believe that the lineage does not pervade the Buddha lineage. This is the key point of the tenet, so keep it in mind. Fourth, there are five aspects: nature, names, divisions, how it becomes a basis, and how it becomes a lineage. The first is that in the Garland of Jewels Sutra, it says, "Bhagavan, this Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, when it has not been liberated from the husk of afflictions, is called the Tathagatagarbha." Here, it also says, "the nature of the Dharmadhatu," etc. Nagarjuna said, "Whatever is not universally known, revolves in the three realms, and dwells in sentient beings, I prostrate to the Dharmadhatu." Here, it speaks of the Dharmadhatu. Sarahah said, "Mind itself is the only seed of all." Nagarjuna said, "When covered by the net of afflictions, it is called mind. When it is free from afflictions, it is called Buddha." Like this, there are many explanations of mind, but the one that completely possesses its own nature is in the Uttaratantra, which says, "The complete Buddha body is for benefit, and the Tathagata is without difference.
