At this time, since the basis of practice itself is shown as lineage, here, the dharmadhatu and lineage are the same in meaning. Then, how does it become thirteen? From the perspective of realization, there are six; from the perspective of the path of immediate cessation, there are two; from the perspective of the path of liberation, there is one; and from the perspective of special qualities, there are four. In total, there are thirteen practices, and for the sake of establishing the thirteen dharmadhatus, which are their basis, as thirteen lineages. Then, what are the boundaries of these thirteen practices? According to Buddhaśrī, the first six are the four joining paths, and the stages of the path of meditation from the path of seeing and below the seventh bhumi, in order. The seventh, eighth, and ninth, are respectively on the eighth bhumi, the ninth bhumi, and the tenth bhumi. The tenth, eleventh, and twelfth, are respectively on the three pure bhumis. The thirteenth is said to be on the special path of the tenth bhumi. According to Dharmamitra, the first five are the same as before, the sixth is the general path of meditation. The seventh and ninth are respectively on the path of immediate cessation and the path of liberation of the path of meditation. The eighth is between the illuminating bhumi and the sixth bhumi, the tenth is on the seventh bhumi, the eleventh is between the immovable bhumi and the tenth bhumi, the twelfth is on the one remaining lifetime and the last existence, and the thirteenth is considered to be on the vajra-like samadhi of the special path of the tenth bhumi. Second, regarding refuting arguments, there are three systems: the system of the noble one (Nāgārjuna), the system of the teacher (Asaṅga) and his followers, and the system of the early Tibetan scholars. First, in the Nirābhāsa, there are two types of argumentative responses: those obtained through meaning and those directly shown. The first is, if the dharmadhatu is lineage, then everything will abide in lineage, because it is universally present. If such a question is posed, then in response to that, how is it focused upon? The noble one said, 'Because it becomes the cause of the noble dharmas, it is thus called lineage. Why seek excessive faults here?' The meaning here is, as explained before, when the practice in the continuum of a bodhisattva focuses on the dharmadhatu, the dharmadhatu, because it becomes the cause of the noble dharma powers and so on, becomes the basis of practice, and is therefore called lineage. Therefore, for the lineage that has become the basis of practice, all sentient beings

There is no extreme of extending to the point that everything exists. That is its meaning. The second point is that even so, because the dharmadhatu has no distinctions, the lineages are not allowed to be different. That is to say, the dharmadhatu, as the subject, you cannot be distinguished into three different lineages of the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle, because you have no distinctions. The answer to this is that by relying on the differences of the dependent dharmas, its differences can be fully explained. Just as three vessels made from the same clay and fired with the same flame are called honey vessels, etc., because of the differences in the essence of honey, syrup, etc., similarly, by relying on the differences in the practice of the three vehicles, such as the Hearer Vehicle, three different lineages are established, so there is no fault. The second point is that the previous debate raised by the Noble One himself is considered to be the meaning of "because the dharmadhatu has no distinctions, the lineages are not allowed to be different," and in response to this, there are two answers that seem to be made: the answer obtained through meaning, and the answer directly shown in the text. For example, the answer of the Hearer Vehicle, etc., and the answer of "relying on the differences of the dependent dharmas," etc., because both answers are used in one debate. Some people think that in the debate, the later debate is supplemented, but this is not the scholar's idea. Although the answer "called..." is also seen, the power of the word "mind-nature" shows that both answers are the answer to one debate. For example, connecting the text of the Hearer Vehicle, etc., with the answer "because the dharmadhatu has no distinctions" is not the Noble One's idea. In the Two Manifestations, after the answers to both debates are completed, the debate shown in the text, "Even so, because the dharmadhatu has no distinctions," is newly proposed, and an answer is made. According to its continuation, as Dharma Friend said, the meaning of the Hearer Vehicle, etc., is that, for example, the Hearers, unlike the Mind-Only school, do not think that there are different lineages and extinct lineages, therefore, on the same nature of unarisen mental factors, due to the power of conditions, there are different realizations of the Hearer Vehicle, etc., as well as the Solitary Realizer and Bodhisattva Vehicles.
