The Buddha Jewel, the truth of complete purification possessing six or eight qualities such as non-conceptual and non-dual, is the Dharma Jewel. Because it possesses six or eight qualities such as knowledge of suchness and allness, the irreversible noble Bodhisattva is said to be the Sangha Jewel. Thus it is said: Uncreated and spontaneously accomplished, not understood by other causes, possessing wisdom, compassion, and power, is the Buddha who possesses true meaning. And it is said: Non-conceptual, non-dual, without discrimination, only the side of purity, clarity, and antidote, whatever is free from attachment by whatever, that which possesses the characteristics of the two truths is the Dharma. And it is said: Within suchness and allness, because of the purity of wisdom's vision, the assembly of the wise who do not turn back, possesses unsurpassed qualities. These are established as temporary refuges, but the ultimate refuge is the Buddha alone, who is complete with all three. So, what should be taken here? According to the temporary refuges spoken of in the Uttaratantra, the views of these two noble ones should be taken. Secondly, there are two types of differences: general differences and individual differences. The first has four types: the difference of the scriptures from which it is spoken, the difference of the individuals who possess it, the difference of the cause from which it arises, and the difference of the activity. The first is that the five eyes are spoken of only in the Prajnaparamita Sutras and Shastras, while the six superknowledges are spoken of in both the Hinayana and Mahayana scriptures. The second is that the five eyes exist only in the continuum of Mahayana individuals, while the six superknowledges exist in all three vehicles, and the first five exist even in individuals who have not entered the path. The third is that the five eyes arise from practicing the six perfections in the small and medium stages of the Mahayana accumulation path, while the six superknowledges arise from meditating on the actual basis of samadhi and focusing on the object of meditation, even without practicing the six perfections. However, the six superknowledges in the continuum of a Bodhisattva, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras, arise from the extremely pure fourth dhyana, being seized by the practice of non-conceptual wisdom, and focusing on the object of meditation. For the self-cause, the five eyes are the self-cause of miraculous

Depending on the feet, monks are without inherent existence. The flesh eye is said to be known through the cultivation of the four miraculous feet. The six superknowledges depend on the actual basis of self-conditioned concentration. Fourth, the five eyes do not rely on others for practice. The flesh eye can point upwards and know where the disciples are downwards. The divine eye knows the death and birth of those to be tamed. The wisdom eye knows the two selflessnesses to be meditated upon. The Dharma eye knows the realization of the Dharma friends and Sangha. The Buddha eye sees the reality of all phenomena. Among the superknowledges, the six superknowledges of the Hinayana lineage, and the first five superknowledges of those who have not entered the path, only accomplish the respective benefits of oneself and others. The six superknowledges of the Bodhisattva lineage completely accomplish the cause of omniscience, benefiting others. Through miraculous powers, one goes to the place where those to be tamed are, and through knowing the minds of others, one knows the actions of others, including attachment and so on. Through the divine ear, one teaches the Dharma in accordance with their language. Through remembering past lives, one remembers where one came from. Through the divine eye, one knows where one is going. Through the superknowledge of knowing the exhaustion of defilements, one points out the path of liberation. Second, the difference between each is that the flesh eye is the root that depends on the self-conditioned miraculous foot, and the root consciousness that depends on the colored root. This is not necessarily included in the meditative ground, because wherever the supporting person is born, it is the colored root of that place. The divine eye born from maturation is the matured fruit of cultivating meditative absorption in previous lives, and the knowledge that arises effortlessly in this life, included in the meditative ground, depends on the colored root. The difference between this and the superknowledge of the divine eye is whether it arises from cultivating meditation in this life or not. The wisdom eye is the non-discriminating wisdom towards all phenomena, which is the equipoise of the eleven grounds. This has the same meaning as ultimate Bodhicitta. The Dharma eye is the root of all noble beings who are equal to oneself or slightly inferior in lineage.
